Vivian did not care what people thought about her work. She probabably did not care whether people noticed the Rollei. We do not have to question her "artistic sensibility. Why would we want to do that? What would be amazing to get an insight on would be: How she approached her subjects, focus a Rollei, and calculate exposure so effortlessly. The photographs speak for themselves. The tonal range in her photographs is astounding( as it was for Bresson, Lartigue, Lisette Model, Elliot Erwitt, etc). I'm just so happy to see her work. thanks for your video.

I don‘t understand this kind of discussion about Vivian Maier. For me there is no doubt that she was an outstanding photographer. This „curated argument“ is just nonsense for me. A lot of great photographers had help with their work. In her 8mm films you get a good hint about what photographic eye this woman had. The biggest question for me is about her late work. I‘m not a big fan of her color works, the stuff which was released lately. We don’t really know what to expect from her work after the 1970s and the thousands of undeveloped rolls of color film. It’s seems that she photographed more and more “nonsense” (newspaper) and her daily life as a nanny when she got older. Maybe that’s no surprise. A lot of photographers do their best work in young ages. We don’t really know what happened to the artist Vivian Maier in the beginning of the 70s. Her early work of the 50s and 60s is definitely not overrated.

Absolutely agree, especially with the curation part, at the end of the day it was all shot by her, whether or not it would be to her liking is a pointless argument, she is now gone. Her perspective is beautiful, I don’t agree with people who say that photography needs to always be so profound, sometimes it’s just good and beautiful, the fact that we gained a new perspective from that period from someone who captured very well is something that should be appreciated! Her images are beautiful and what photographer has 100% “flawless” images? None.

Loved the video guys and nice to put a face to your voices. I have really enjoyed your podcasts and I also have a love and passion for wonderful film cameras, of which I have a few, but nothing like your collections! Not that i'm jealous 😀 Keep up the excellent work and as a Welshman, Jeff, I was very glad you enjoyed your trip to Wales. Best wishes to you both from Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales 👍

I just watched you guys for the first time, and I enjoyed your banter reminiscing about acquiring cameras in the 70’s. I was 16 in 1973 and my part-time job in high school was in a shop located in Milwaukee selling record albums with a sound booth, greeting cards and a photo counter where I sold those same cameras featured on this episode. All the best!

Just seems like some of these photographers thought they were great till Vivian Maier images came out, so they will pick at her work now.

Just watched this episode a second time after hearing the funny things you have to say about the YT comments. I think it is hilarious that people comment about the episode title and what is probably sixty seconds of the episode. I think Vivian Meier made some lovely photographs. But I don’t really care whether she is considered a world class artist or not. One thing I just noticed is that Gabe has an Exacta here. You have mentioned in a few episodes that neither of you have ever used Exactas. Have you tried it out yet since bringing it back from Albuquerque? What do you think of it? I hope you are also still enjoying the Graflex and getting more comfortable with sheet film. Jeff, you used here and in few other episodes, the phrase “Have I over-egged the pudding?”, a phrase I had never heard before. Is that a common phrase in the screenwriting business or from your childhood?

19:00 - I had to look it up and it means: Without which, not Sine qua non can be translated literally as "Without which, not." Though this may sound like gibberish, it means more or less "Without (something), (something else) won't be possible." Sine qua non sounds slightly literary, and it shouldn't be used just anywhere.

And ... who are you two guys again? I guess a couple of sitcom producers are more qualified to question the validity of Vivian Maier's work than the curators of the Leica Gallery and Galleria Cons Arc in Switzerland. Quit pretending you know what you're talking about and stick to producing mindless television for the unwashed masses.
