Would you refill your water bottle in a hawker centre toilet?
"Most, if not all Singaporeans right, are aware of the fact that tap water is clean and safe to drink," said Erny Kartolo, the Co-founder of Drink Wise, Drink Tap campaign. "But the surroundings of the of the tap and the environment in which it's in, affects their perception of the tap water."
That may explain why in 2018, Singapore consumed nearly 28 million litres of bottled water - enough to fill 20 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
#TalkingPoint tests the tap water from places like coffee shop and MRT station toilets. Here's what we found.

You go F&B restaurants that serve free ice water all are tap water anyways. Source: I work in F&B restaurants and I was the guy who had to fill your glasses with tap water. And yes, we staff drink tap water too. Still alive, just so you know.

hey same i also worked as a waitress before but when i have to drink water, i won’t drink it from the tap (like what we give to customers) but instead drink from the boiler for hot tea

@@user-oh6wb5rj2q Sure, last time when I'm in NS, our salary is very low, our canteen is far away. So whenever I'm thirsty or need to go to the toilet, I'll drank from the tap water. Reason being saving money not to buy drinks, our canteen is far away, lastly we can't go anywhere as we like when on routine activities everyday. Plus our platoon sergeant will keep watch on us to complete our duty. FYI that around 30 plus year already when I'm serving my NS.

this is based on a probablistic framework. in the uk the north has some good tap water however there can be some areas that are high in crime

In Finland tap water is safe to drink. I've never bought a water bottle, except on bike trips where I forgot to bring tap water in an old bottle...

I always get water from water cooler. I hope the relevant maintenance authority do maintenance on the filters of these machines. I personally have not seen any maintenance being carried out on such machines before.

Actually treated water is safe to drink. But the problem is, how about the rusty water pipe underground? It is maintained daily?

I feel like tap water from public toilets have a different taste than the water I get from my water filter machine at home, but I still drink tap water from public toilets when I'm outside because I know it is safe.

this makes water coolers so much more easier for me to drink from ,, I use to fear that when I top-up my water bottle there’s many bacteroids in it because of where it comes from and all the drinking habits of people like licking and spitting ,, but now I know that there’s actually a cleaner inside the machine it makes me feel better!!!

The other problem in Singapore, a real bugbear, many F&B are refusing to offer water (including tap water) free. Insisting that we purchase their bottled water.

For some reason sometimes rust comes out of the tap in my house.. Contacted pub one time and they said my neighbours faced the same problem.
