I fixed my bppv by watching your other video. The results were immediate. After the first time through the process a huge difference. After the second time I was completely cured of dizziness. I can tell you that, yes, it can be very disconcerting to nearly fall over for no apparent reason. Also, the procedure caused me to experience more dizziness than I expected which was also disturbing.

Bob 'n Brad, you've inspired me to start working towards becoming a DPT. Seriously. I'm applying to programs now. I found myself immobilized with issues in my psoas and pelvis several times this year. Your videos helped me deduce which muscles and joints were being affected, and the stretches you showed me put me back into alignment and out of pain! Last year I dropped out of gradschool after becoming certain that I was on the wrong path and no longer wanted to become a psychotherapist (mostly because my approach, which is technical and more like "personality engineering" than "counseling," doesn't fit in with the culture of the profession). Through watching your videos I found something that satisfies my desire to help others improve their health as well as my need to work at something technical. Thanks for the inspiration, and keep doing what you're doing because it's having an impact!

Thank you guys sssoooo much! Yesterday and today I was just miserable with bppv, or at least what I believed was. Not wanting to eat or be active. Seriously concerned over it because I am the vehicle operator for our household, and love to ride motorcycles. I'm not dizzy as of now and can not create spin after manipulation. THANK YOU!!! Something as blah as bppv can ruin a person.

I experienced this for the very first time last Sunday morning (May 2, 2021). It was as I was turning in bed to get up for the morning. Freaked me out - last time I had experienced any sort of vertigo was when I was put under for oral surgery 19 years ago. First thing I thought was, am I having a stroke? Being the critical thinker I am, I sat there and ran a few things through my head first ... was I slurring speech? Nope, was talking fine. Was I weak anywhere? Nope, no weakness. By now I was up and the vertigo had passed. However, I now experience this every damned time I turn my head sharply to the right and upward. Every time it lasts 15-20 seconds and goes away. Doing research on this landed me here. I will be trying the Epley maneuver in the morning when I wake up tomorrow. FWIW I did have a head injury (including an mTBI) but this was 31 years ago.

To clarify, the spinning of bppv won’t last hours but the head movement triggering can last days or weeks until you get the “crystals “ repositioned.

Waseem Khan start looking into occipital vertigo. Your neck and base of your skull, the occipital area can pinch off nerves causing that side ear, eye, and such to give you issues, off balance especially. Chiropractor can do an occipital lift maneuver, also research occipital stretching and such. I have that issue also, but got it under control.

I made the mistake of self-diagnosing vertigo when, in fact, I was having a stroke! I had pain around my ear and along the side of my face plus vertigo - spinning room, dizziness, severe nausea and vomiting. Fortunately I got treatment quickly and I fully recovered. The stroke was caused by Atrial Fibrillation! (I finally got rid of the A-Fib after two cardiac ablation!).

July 2021....I thought I was having a stroke, the room was spinning, I was very weak, clammy, disoriented. Lying down did not help. Fortunately, whatever WAS wrong I did not add my own stubbornness to the equation; instead I called 911 pronto. I live in New Orleans so they took me to Tulane Neurologic Center, where the Docs did everything but give me a manicure (LOL) I had an MRI (nothing unusual), an EKG (ditto), a stroke evaluation (all clear), and blood tests for diabetes screen and BP check. All good. So, BPPV it was. I did experience this years ago in my 30s: it resolved in a short while on its own - given Antivert, and time. However I am now 73, and as our body fluids become less as we age...so does the fluid in our middle ear. Who'd a thunk it? So I am adding healthier, better eating (hydration, natch)... since I could certainly drop 20 pounds. I'm a non drinker and don't smoke...and love walking. Stretch and bending exercises, and Antivert (1/2 capsule) when needed. No driving, no bike riding, making small changes in my lifestyle and habits...common sense calls the tune. Also learning everything I can so I can manage and lessen this annoying, somewhat (literally) unsettling condition..Thanks, guys.

In my first encounter (2015) with BPPV, Physical Therapy (for low back pain, floor exercises) precipitated the vertigo; a recent recurrence of low back/coccyx pain initiated another P/T series, again floor exercises. BPPV returned, and this time I was evaluated separately for BPPV and received Epley Maneuver treatment, training and written instructions. It's challenging to resolve one condition, if the method creates another...Also thanks for mentioning TMJ, Brad; I didn't realize. I worked through that in college, still use a splint.

So important, usually, to NOT try to "work through the pain." Gentle, frequent exercise is the safer way. Yes, THANK YOU, Brad for listing so many possible causes of dizziness. I found Epley Maneuver descriptions after 1 episode of vertigo a year ago, and made a self-help illustrated guide using this video: www.rehab.msu.edu/_files/_docs/dizziness_handicap_inventory.pdf. I did the Maneuver successfully, but I think if I ever have another episode, I'll try to massage my neck first before I do the Epley, because the 3rd turn is an abrupt 90⁰ and it hurt a bit.

Epley advised using mastoid vibration in conjunction with the positional maneuver, but I am hard pressed to find anyone on YT internet knowledgeable of this important aspect. The difference between use of mastoid vibration and BPPV treatment is dramatic, as detailed in info on the internet. I will have to find the same again, because if I am to go to a therapist for treatment, I want the same to vibrate the mastoid to break up the calcium crystal clog in the ear canal. Big difference in outcome as has been tested by scientific experimentation.

I've had the vertigo now just over a year. First my ENT diagnosed it as Vestibular Neuritis gave me some prednisone said the dizziness should be gone in a week. It wasn't. Next stop a Physical therapist you have a crystal in your right ear. All last summer I did therapy including the Epley maneuver well over 100 times. Next up my ENT said no you have a Vestibular Migraine. prescribed me Venlafaxine ER 37.5m (a anti-depressant). Take this for 2 weeks and you'll be fine. I take one at 10am. By noon the vertigo is 80% gone. Cool. At 2am the next morning I wake up with a blinding headache. Since I don't get headaches and I had read if you take this medicine you might want to monitor your blood pressure. So I take my blood pressure. It's 196/101. Yep off to the emergency room we go. Anyone who can point me in the right direction you get a $100 bill in the mail. No B.S.

How do you tell the difference between labyrinthitis and BPPV? My GP diagnosed me with labyrinthitis but I don't have any ear pain or noise, and i tried your other video and found lying down on the left side (head over bed) to trigger the head spin, does that mean its BPPV or can still be labrinthitis?

my aunt only experiences dizziness when lying on her left side but subsides quickly after 20-30 secs. she rarely experiences any dizziness and only complains about it when lying on her left side. We did the epley maneuver and she only experiences extreme dizziness during sitting up. We did 3 sessions of the maneuver already but have 2-3days interval in between? she told me she’s still experiencing extreme dizziness during sitting upright. Do we still have to continue the epley’s maneuver?

Only had dizziness looking up and turning in bed, not bending over forward or quick movements side to side. Had this off and on for many years. Went to an ENT specialist and was told, yes we can see your spinning (eye movements) but we have no idea why. So, I try Epley Maneuver myself at home and all it does is make me very sick at my stomach for quite a while afterwards. Doesn’t fix a thing. I am very disheartened by this. It is debilitating and no one seems to have an answer.

Wow, you guys are wonderful. Thank you for all your helpful suggestions. Yes, I have had many bouts of BPPV and had specialist treatments to fix it. Now my partner helps me with the exercises that often works after two or three times. It is very disturbing when the crystals move back and often gives me a violent swaying sensation when the room seems to spin for ten to fifteen seconds. But the relief is almost instant from the severe dizziness and vertigo. Great job guys, I thought you were going to show us the maneuver but it's ok, I know how to do it. I lay on the floor with my head tilted to one side for two or three minutes, then get my partner to help pull me up into a sitting position very quickly, if the room spins I know the crystals moved. Often I have to repeat on the other side as well. Thank you, I have subscribed. Kind regards Rae Ward, New Zealand.

@dennistesdell3243

Good video. Similar to "benign orthostatic/positional hypotension," but with it as you know, obviously there is a big difference between true vertigo where the room is actually seeming to "spin," or if one is "only" light headed, off balance, and no real "spinning." Of course meds, sitting and getting up too quickly, positional issues and even cervical and middle/inner ear problems, to name a few. The main thing is to get to a doctor -GP, ENT specialist or whatever, and find out the true cause of it. "Tilt tables" often are helpful in diagnosing the causes. I hope you concur. People can also have "nystagmus" and some lightheaded feelings or queasy sensations from severe allergy problems which cause their ear pressure to be abnormal.

I had an itchy sensation in my ear. I feel the itchy sensation travel to the back of my throat. To relieve the itchy feeling, I would stick my finger in my ear and shake it off. Just as I would do, when, water gets in my ear after a shower. Would this bring on dizziness issues later on in life?
@dennistesdell3243
@dennistesdell3243 5 жыл бұрын
@LS - Interesting that you mention your “itchy” ear. I have seasonal allergies and even allergies in the winter time. One of the symptoms of having allergies for many people is their ear itches down deep. Long ago, I found one way to “scratch” that, even though I wasn’t getting close to touching the spot that was causing it to itch was to put my finger in my ear and wiggle it. It does make it feel better for a short time, but I found after going to my doctor, that his recommendation to take an allergy medication or a simple anti-histamine was a much better solution. There are other things of course that can cause the ear canal to itch, but an itchy ear and itchy throat are both common symptoms of allergies. Again, the safest thing to do is to go to your doctor and have him take a look with his otoscope and see what your ear canal looks like. I doubt seriously if you would get dizziness from doing that, since I have not, but everyone is different, and of course part of our balance and part of our sense of having or not having “vertigo” to some degree comes from our inner ear. So again, the safest thing to do is to see the doctor and have him take a look, make a diagnosis and then make his informed medical suggestions. Good luck!

Made appointment with vestibular therapist & she couldn’t trigger an episode. Back to work & no problems so far. Some moments feel slightly imbalanced but suspect it’s the Betahistine Dihydroc . Emergency doc made me appointment with neurologist but suspect I need nose and ear specialist to get to the bottom of this. You guys aren’t kidding when you say it takes multiple visits! I walk to the store about a half mile stop at a light on a busy street...The light changes the traffic stops and I cross the street... Every time I get a dizzy feeling and almost pass out and think what the hell is that am I walking across an Indian grave or a spot someone got killed...So weird.

I am now 73, had this vertigo issue years ago...Sometimes little things help a lot...Ex:Changing the position of your eyes, which is common as you walk in the street (safety, noting traffic lights, etc), can cause the eye and the middle ear to send a mixed message. Hence, the dizziness. I used to text in the passenger seat of our car, then look up and talk with hubby. Causing a rapid, constant shift in my eye focus. I don't do that anymore and it is a huge improvement already.

I don't think I have BPPV. I have dizziness that last 4 days straight. Driving in a roundabout causes me to get dizzy. I have spinal cervical herniated disc and lumbar herniated disc. I had bypass heart surgery 4 on January 4th this year. I have high blood pressure and high Cholesterol levels plus Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). My neurologist has sent me for an MRI of the brain, head and neck but it was normal. I had physical therapy, but, they have not caught the reason. Might, you have any possibilities, of, what it might be? I am 60 and applying for disability.

Have you seen an ear, nose and throat specialist? If not, try them. You could have an inner ear issue that can sometimes be difficult to diagnose.

I acquired this dizziness vertigo remedy for my spouse who has experienced varying degrees of dizziness for four to five. He began having outcomes after 4 days, and now right after a week, even though not 100% yet he`s had very long periods of total alleviation. I`m hoping this procedure will be the solution as well as he will have no more dizziness troubles to endure. I save your time to do the research on Google. The guidebook’s is t.co/YajEea0QtE

How to differentiate between bppv or dizziness related to cervical issues?
@dennistesdell3243
@dennistesdell3243 5 жыл бұрын
C. Campbell Go to a doctor, have him examine you, and if necessary take x-rays of your cervical spine, and that should show if there is any relationship I would think.

C. Campbell my doctors and X-ray didn’t show problems but one of my dizzy issues is from my occipital nerve at the base of my skull, chiropractor does an occipital lift maneuver that fixes it for me. Unfortunately I also get bppv.

SERIOUSLY THEY SAY IT IS NOT BPPPV IF IT GOES FOR HOURS?? the first time I have this and only after hours and hours of rest I could get a bit better and my neck hurts a lot. And I this video they don't tell you what it could be if it last hours. Also everyone that had this say it last hours days or weeks. I have seen lots of videos and people say they feel bad fo long time.

nancern53 I think they meant the full on spinning part............once you lay still or sit still the spinning should stop after a couple minutes until you move again. I think they just didn’t clarify that. I get it for weeks as well.
