If your MacBook is overheating, there are usually only a few areas that may be causing it. Let's go over MacBook internals.

One more tip... I've noticed that my Mac heats up more if it's charging. So for live gigs, I make sure I'm fully charged and it's smooth sailing. Also, if it starts to heat up, turn down the screen brightness a bit, that helps as well. I've learned the hard way 🤣

Excellent vid! I have found that a lot of times it's the actual USB-C connection/hub getting hot that causes Serato to glitch. I use frozen lunchbox cooler packs and place them directly on and under my ports at really hot gigs. This has worked for me.

Is there anything else you would recommend because I blew out all the debris out of the fan internally. Then, today at my gig SERATO did it really bad when I was outside it started glitching. Immediately I wrote Serato but they are slow as hell and not as technically as advanced as they use to be. Would thermal paste be an issue as to why it is overheating and with the red dot?

Those unibody macs are so easy to open great design in that regard (but not the best for keeping it cool..) - - excellent fact based video - this works every time and is the usual problem.. (DUST / GUNK) Good work boys. @6:10 - it's best YOU learn to apply thermal paste.. it's not difficult. You can try different types of paste..some help in hotter environments.

Great Tip. I have to clean mine. I have a Mini Honeywell Blowing on High to my 2012 MPB Retina. Mainly Pointing the Fan Directly on the Bottom Back Side by the Vents. Works if you have this Issue. But Yeah.. Time to Clean My Fans. 😊
@MBrulla

Blow air laterally, not toward the vents directly. If you're blowing air in you're not allowing it to escape out. Blowing from the side will push the air away faster.

Great video, totally reminded me to clean mine. I still rock a 2012 only because those were still customizable and I put a new battery, new SSD and upgraded the RAM. But it’s been a couple years since I cleaned inside or added thermal paste. It’s been getting hot AF tho! Heat moves from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration so with these Cali temperatures it’s been tough to keep it cool. Heard the new M1s and M2s are excellent with not overheating, has that been your experience?

I do freelance repair work. Your case does not act as a heatsink, as there's no contact between the heatsink itself and the case. If there were you'd get burned regularly. You can actually see the insulating material to prevent the heatsink from touching the case itself. If he's got the A1706 he needs to be careful with pulling his screen open all the way - #flexgate. Basically, the flex cable that goes from the screen to the laptop is too short and can develop a crack. It's a PITA to fix, but it is fixable. You'll pay for it, though. Also, don't pull up at the back of the laptop. Slip a plastic (NOT METAL) guitar pick or something like that at the front edge. Once you get the edge up, pull up from the front until you get to the back. Then pull forward (not up) to release the clips. Case basically slides back. Always clean your fans stationary - if you're blowing them and letting them spin you can wear them out. I would also recommend, if he's working anywhere humid, to take a soft bristled toothbrush with some 99% isopropyl alcohol and scrub the motherboard to remove corrosion. Changing thermal paste isn't a bad idea, especially for a '17, but unless you know what you're doing...just take it to a repair shop. Super simple job, but easy to mess up. This was unexpected, but important content. One thing you should also mention... Do not use cases that block your vents. Most of the ones that have bottoms that clip on will block them. Take a dremel or even a scissors and cut off the parts that do block them. They'll stay on just fine, but won't block airflow.

I added a couple of thermal pads between the heat pipe and casing to get the bottom of my mid-2015 Macbook Pro to actually sink heat like the original unibody Macbooks. As expected, the bottom of the frame gets much warmer now, but the computer definitely throttles less often, and is able to work consistently through hot outdoor gigs that I couldn't get through before the mod.
@MBrulla
@MBrulla Жыл бұрын
@@djphiliptan I would actually not do this. Your body is connected to many other things and is not designed to transfer heat, they're not unibody by intentional design and transferring heat to other parts of the machine may inadvertently damage other parts. The likelihood I'm not able to say, but the chance is increased. Increase airflow and cool the case, which will cool the air inside it. Using cooling pads under your machine can help cool it rapidly. Did you have clear airflow paths and good paste? Those are #1 and #2 steps. Just because something works better doesn't mean it's good for longevity (think overclocking).
@djphiliptan
@djphiliptan Жыл бұрын
@@MBrulla Thanks for the advice! Yeah, the airflow paths were clear and I use laptop stands with fans built into them. I didn't check the thermal paste, though. Thanks for the reminder.

@@jasonsturman3165 those processors are heat crazy. Only other solution besides getting it out of direct sunlight and cooling pads is to increase your buffer size. Lower the buffer, the harder your processors work.
