If you watch carefully, Akash only describes what he wants from the girl he marries, when he opens his heart to Anjali. He never said anything about what he would do for her. So it showed his selfishness. He's a bit like his father. His father also got married to manorama against his mother but rarely stands up for her in front of his mother. At least arnav had the guts to defend Lavanya when nani criticises her even though he doesn’t actually love her. So the contrast in the brothers' characters is clear. Akash never even tried to solve payal's bua's financial problems. But Arnav did. Whether you like it or not, Akash is a bit weak, bit selfish character even from the beginning. So it's no wonder he acts passively even though he loves payal. There are many lovers who turned passive after getting married to the person they want. So Akash payal situation is very realistic. The show makers indeed used it to show the contrast to arnav khushi's zero to insanely in love gradually developed and more stable relationship. Because you like it or not arnav khushi is the mainly focused relationship in the drama. It's very much like Austen's pride and prejudice, where older sister and hero's best friend fall for each other right from the beginning but needed the 3rd party to bring them together finally. And unlike arnav he was pampered by manorama so he would never makes her angry by standing for his wife. I mean what lover would allow even his mother to call his lover girl, koon bari tang, bloody leg in front of him? So before marriage also he never even uttered one word against calling payal like that. He only acted rebellious until he gets to marry payal. In contrast, arnav defended kushi when Lavanya and her friends called her chamkili. He defended her honour saying she has a name. At that time he wasn't even sure about his feelings. But defended her name. Honour and respect should be there along with love. If not, like Akash and payal relationship, it would turn rather passive.

@@zainudeenrawther3607 yeah. Actually Akash is a man of words but Arnav is a man of action. See how easily Akash confesses his feelings to payal because he's good with words, not so much in action. But we all know how difficult it was for Arnav to confesses his feelings to kushi. He blurts it out through the phone because it was a life threatening situation and he knew he probably won't get another chance. Secondly when he was made angry by kushi asking him what does he actually care for if not rituals and traditions, thus provoking him to yell I love you dammit. But he does show his love through actions and supporting her family

@@tina-gu6sy Yeah, that's what I love in Arnav ❤ he always fulfilled her big and small wishes and kept her and her family happy 😊, there was a scene where buaji wanted to tie him the Raksha dhaga and Arnav asked buaji to tie on their engagement ☺️that was so spcl abt him,but Akash's words just remained as it is.

@@zainudeenrawther3607 maybe what Arnav feels for kushi is way deeper than what Akash feels for Payal. You know, it is really difficult to word out the love if that feeling is rather too much and too deep to express in any language. It makes one almost tongue tied because deep down you know the words are insufficient to express how you actually feel. Akash having no such hesitation or struggles to express his feelings, always makes me question if he has taken that deep feeling, rather too facile or easy.
