StarWarFan As it so often does. In all the stories, and in real life, it’s not Gods who deliver us from extinction. To be sure, sometimes they’re there to lend a helping hand, provide guidance, grant powers or tools through divine intervention or blood shared with the heroes. But at the end of the day, it’s the humans who slay the monsters, who prevent the demon invasion, who outwit the evil spirits, because only we can truly save ourselves. @wobbmin37053 жыл бұрын
Although, yes, revenge as a concept is bad, there's nothing innately wrong or unreasonable with frustrated people seeking even the most fleeting catharsis or wanting to see Karma work its magic. There are bad people in the world, but with how many people there are, it would be foolish not to expect that, just as it would be foolish to believe good people don't exist. That's just how people work. That said, some people experience life and happen to mostly or only be surrounded by one or the other, so as foolish as either of those beliefs may be, they aren't always without fair reason.
@scotibot74503 жыл бұрын
@@luminozero it ultimately reinforces his point to Isaac. Is humanity cruel or kind? Just or unjust? Good, evil or something between? Ultimately humanity is all of these things. I love this scene for a particular reason. When the Captain says he would end human kindness too, Isaac immediately looks at the mirror the shop owner gave him. He still recognizes kindness and love in SOME people. I feel like at this point he pondered whether he was as blinded by anger of humanity as Dracula was.
@Foxmagik3 жыл бұрын
I think the Captain kind of pointed that out. In the same the shop keeper gave him that box and the guards told him and his hoard to leave or be killed, and Isaac decided that the jerk guards opinion mattered more than the shop keepers kindness. Isaac repeatedly chose to be more like the guard and hurt people on the grounds that "they were rude" because, imo, it fits his established opinion that all humans are all bad and all deserve to die because of it, while acts of kindness create an uncomfortable ambivalence that humans can be both good and bad and that's OK. Like a lot of cynical jerks and edge lords out there it's easier to expect the worse in everyone and feel good about yourself for being correct rather then accept the uncomfortable uncertainty that comes with moral ambiguities.

That's the genius of this scene, it doesn't treat vengeance like this glorified justification for the self-righteous. @@dusanburic4994 actually, that’s a very narrow way of looking at the speech. It’s not dismissing revenge at all, in fact the Captain even says revenge is necessary in some ways. What’s being shown is that there is always an alternative to all out vengeance. Can you destroy the human race? Yes, and thus get rid of cruelty, however you now get rid of all the good to. The captain merely pointed out that Issac did enjoy the good in humans, Thats the very reason The Captain is alive. So he knows Issac doesn’t fully hate humanity, just the nasty bits. So he’s reasoning with that. I believe this speech also gives an alternative way of dealing with cynicism besides brushing it off like both of you did. Reason with it, do people suck? This is what makes us so incredibly fascinating, we humans have the capability to carry out truly heinous acts, they’re people who have seen hell on earth, people who cause it, and people who mend it. Humans are complex AF, we learn new things about the brain every single day, isn’t that Amazing ? The writers of this show did great! Very thought provoking.

That's what I love about this show. It shows that thinking Humanity is a sinking ship and evil isn't some deep thought, but rather a very nieve view of humanity as a whole. To say all of us are evil is just down right untrue and thats not a message thats seen a lot today.

Every time Captain says "I've been cruel" I just wonder what sort of man he is. Is Isaac sitting with a man possibly worse then any villain we've seen in the series so far? Is he bloodthirsty and just taking the odd break to hear a story before he goes back out to cause hell on the sea? Is he a character true to real life pirates? A killer, a thief, a monster. How much blood is on the Captains hands? Is Isaac's own villainy merely enforced by his end goal of killing all humanity and at this present time, when comparing what these two have achieved and done, the Captain is so much worse. It would explain why the Captain easily admits his appreciation for revenge. And given the Captain's skin and accent, quite possibly, his past could've been similar to Isaac's. He might have been enslaved at some point which gave him his sense of cynicism. Something that happened to him or something he did gave him an insight into the horrors of humanity (note the scar on his cheek). I mean, he barely reacts to a story of vampires, as if he's seen it all and maybe even too much. But, at the end of all this, the Captain is probably one of the most optimistic characters in this series so far. Which is admirable. I don't know for sure but judging by his look he's older than a lot of the characters in the series. The captain has seen life and pain. And he's probably always gonna live with it. But he pushes Isaac to the path of creation and prosperity. Makes you wonder how much actions define us. Is it possible for someone like Isaac to turn around and do good?
@mbpm61353 жыл бұрын
Isaac supposedly hates humankind, but he was very quickly convinced to spare certain humans when they charmed him. The shopkeeper. The Captain. Miranda. Isaac probably has the potential for benevolence... but his malevolence runs deep at the moment.
@jonathanmorris74453 жыл бұрын
@@mbpm6135 If that’s the case then what will Isaac do after he gets his revenge? Live out Dracula’s was purpose in life? or just live isolated like Alucard and fade into time? Or he could also teach others to be kind to be better human beings

@@mbpm6135 Isaac has been wounded, we see when he was a slave that he was full of love and wanted to help his master. But after being hurt so many times he only treats others how they treat him, often times they don’t treat Isaac any good. He seeks revenge. But when people treat him right and accordingly, he mirrors their treatment. He is reasonable, trying to reason with various soldiers to not be slaughtered if they kindly let him through. Isaac is trying to fulfill something, seeking revenge for his pain because he only sees the bad of humanity, a sort of justice maybe.. but deep down he knows good. But I won’t be surprised if he continues his path to destroying humanity, it is his story.

Man, this one and a half minute scene really is one of if not the most important turning points in Isaac's story. In particular, Isaac finally growing out of Dracula's shadow and finally coming to terms with that Dracula might have been wrong. In particular, the Captain's line about "But you also end human kindness too. No more jokes, no more gifts, no more surprises" is a lesson for Isaac, but has surprising resonance with Dracula's story as well. Because of his wife's death, Dracula set out to slaughter all of humanity in the world. But in his rage, he lost sight of one important detail: his wife was also human. Aa woman who was kind, who made jokes with Dracula, surprised him with her spirit, and gave him his greatest gift in his son. By setting out to destroy humanity, Dracula was killing all of Lisa's murderers, but he was also killing all the people like Lisa. That was perhaps Dracula's greatest failing. And now, here is Isaac. He has the chance to follow exactly in Dracula's footsteps and doggedly wants to do so. But the Captain is inadvertently pointing out to Isaac that he has the chance to AVOID Dracula's mistakes as well. To become someone better. And while it takes him some time to reach it, I think Isaac does. he lets go of his revenge, and even comes to admit that Dracula was not a good ruler nor a perfect person. And with that Isaac proves that in his own way he has already become a better person than Dracula and that however his story unfolds, it will likely be much better for himself and the world. And the fact the writers managed to pull off this bit of parallel writing between two character arcs in a way that didn't feel repetitive or that it was beating us over the head was simply perfection.

the last season was pretty damn sad with isaac, Alucard, trevor and syphr really finding less and less reasons to save humanity. Frankly i hope in the next season they all come to the conclusion that its the church that is evil and that if they want to teach people to be good. Then they should start with the kids first, since adults are set in their ways. A child can be molded to a certain path better. Frankly i think Alucard should have trevor and syphr should turn the castle and the belmont hold into a school for learning.

@@bernardobastos5996 well the town trevor/syphr were in for the most part seemed to be good people (not any more), but then they got those crazy monks and the mayor who delights in killing kids..... Yes Isaac is infuriatingly dense when it comes to always focusing on the bad parts of humanity. Thank god for the Captain character. He literally has the best lines this season. He has to point out the good things Isaac experienced and also how Isaac with all his power could make the world better. The Captain got it figured out. If these three groups decided to lead people and promote the good things about humanity they could. change humanity for the better.
