Reality isn't something you perceive; it's something you create in your mind. Isaac Lidsky learned this profound lesson firsthand, when unexpected life circumstances yielded valuable insights. In this introspective, personal talk, he challenges us to let go of excuses, assumptions and fears, and accept the awesome responsibility of being the creators of our own reality.

I went totally blind five years ago. I just discovered this Ted talk yesterday. It was a relief to hear that somebody else had experienced the fears that I experienced when I went blind. Great talk!

My father became blind when he turned 40 and he agonised over losing his vision. He couldn't cope, I've seen blindness destroy him. I'm happy this man embraced his condition and gets to live a happy, fulfilled life.

this is so true. I've dealt with anxiety since i was very young and one of the biggest ways I've managed to overcome it was by helping to retrain my brain to think about all my worries and fears in a different way.

I am the sort of person who worries about everything and then I hear a man like this who suffered a devastating challenge as a teenager and has gone on to accomplish so much. Inspirational and so worth hearing.

Did you notice how he held out his hand to shake hands with the other guy at the end, even though he couldn't see the other guy's gesture? THAT was impressive!
