It's popular to say nothing is impossible, especially in regard to the future and our Universe, but are there somethings which might turn out to be impossible or at least so impractical they never occur?

It won't be any human ancestors who find it. Society and the human world (and probably the planet) will be long gone before then. Some form of life might find it floating somewhere in the universe if it survives whatever cataclysmic event that finally takes the earth down. @Jan Sitkowski I couldn't make it all the way to the end, it's dreadfully boring in most parts, and I distaste much of its contents (partially because the abrahamic faiths are all a bit screwy imo, but also stuff like stating that women are worth 1/3 of a man, and that death in the attempt to kill the non-believers brings such glory in heaven that the only reason one who achieved it would seek rebirth would be to do it again, make me uncomfortable, especially in doctrine). Admittedly, it's position might be slightly exaggerated.
@theapexsurvivor9538
@theapexsurvivor9538 4 жыл бұрын
@Jan Sitkowski I haven't read Mini Koup, well, at least not much, a fragment here and there, so I can't really give a great comparison, but if I recall correctly, M e i n K a m p f didn't expressly call for the deaths of the J e w s, but their exportation to Madagascar(?), So I'd have to say it's better on that count than the Qur'an, and while the translation I read is rather dry, it wasn't *_quite_* as boring a read, so it may be better in that regard as well, but otherwise I'd say they're pretty equal, so I'd rank them with the Qur'an being worse, but I wouldn't be putting much between them, maybe some of Marx's less offensive works. Though if I feel like getting a rise out of people, I'm happy to claim that either the Qur'an or My Struggle is an amazing book and shouldn't be compared to the other. Anyway, that's my best attempt at a comparison. TL;DR Mine Camp is amazing and everyone should read it, especially in conjunction with The J e w i s h Question by Marx, meanwhile the Qur'an is shit and should be burned alongside the T O R A H! Read fast, this probably won't last the hour knowing You Tube.

Yes, FTL will probably never exist: accelerating an object to travel through space the speed of light is impossible, a warp drive bending space around a 'stationary' object faster than light is probably impossible and would essentially also be a time machine, wormhole star-gates are the least unlikely but also probably impossible. However, Isaac may turn out to be wrong about it being impossible to transmit information faster than the speed of light as quantum entanglement may make instantaneous communication across infinite distances possible.

@isaacarthurSFIA 4 жыл бұрын
More than 'practically undetectable' eventually, once the wavelength is a certain size you couldn't actually resolve them into meaningful images, just a blob overlapping other blobs, and eventually you'd get wavelengths larger and frequencies longer than even that expanded and older observable Universe. I'm not really sure how you could even detect that, same as detecting a photon that was so far reversed that it's sheer wavelength and energy density has gone black hole.

The library of Babel does exist though. It's on the internet, you can freely visit. It's only one small page for each entry, not an entire book but it doesn't store any information. It just stores the algorithm to generating the library.

@@isaacarthurSFIA Well of course the library wouldn't actually store the data. There's no point, we know exactly what data is in there: *ALL of it.* but that's just a form of encoding. Once my brother found out how many different possible versions of a digital audio CD can theoretically exist he said "why don't we just store the number to identify which of these possibilities it is instead of storing the audio itself" to which I had to point out that that is EXACTLY how we store digital information on a CD.

@@isaacarthurSFIA "just a random generator" that is a hard to prove tho. What book you pick in a library will also always follow a algorithm and have a level of random, and in a "real" library of Babel as described in the video, you also always gonna be picking at random, if things a stored randomly. But the argument here comes down to, what does it mean for something to exist? Take a game where everything you see is generated in front of you, but disappears when you not looking, but you would never know that. Or a lottery ticket, it could hold a milon, or none at all. but we kinda agree the milon exist as a possibility for it to hold. In fact everything we know of only exist as a possibility, universe could end tomorrow and that was all there was to it. My point being that I don't see that there is a difference between a library with all possible books, and a library with the potential to have any book in it. You could say it dos not store it, but like with immortality, if something exist for a second or a billion years makes no difference it will only bee here in a limited time one way or another. And its not like you cant randomly get the same book 2 times, well at least if its build right. And there might be the only true flaw, in that its in fact not random enough to be what the real library of Babel should be.
@rbm720
@rbm720 4 жыл бұрын
@@isaacarthurSFIA Well is not exactly a random generator because you will always find the same book in the same position. This says the author of the project: "ll head off any doubts: any text you find in any location of the library will be in the same place in perpetuity. We do not simply generate and store books as they are requested - in fact, the storage demands would make that impossible. Every possible permutation of letters is accessible at this very moment in one of the library's books, only awaiting its discovery."
