As youtuber or journalist you should ask what is the main reason behind all this. As you say when the emperor of Ethiopia annex Eritrea by force, all the super powers they were quite, but when Kuwait is invaded by Sadam they defended Kuwait. Double standard. Border war with Ethiopia, Badme awarded to Eritrea, the government in Ethiopia (dominated by tigrians) refused to accept the final and binding decision of international court for twenty years, the super powers were quite. Double standard. Unless you are strong enough it is not easy to survive in this unfair world. So Isaias is not a dictator, he is strong man.

If you want to hear from Eritrean perspective, 1. The reason none stop military service, is because Ethiopia didn't leave Eritrea land from the Badme War 1998 until 2018, which is 21 years of Eritrea land under Ethiopian occupation and it was called no war no peace, and that also the reason why Isaias been ruling the country becouse he but Eritrea under emergency state since 1998 and since the forginer didn't leave out Eritrean land he didn't remove it! 2, The reason he have bad relations with west becouse for 16 years the US and western countries sanctioned Eritrea and they lifted up for one year but then they added sanctions again and isaias said that enough and went to Allie himself with sanctioned countries like Russia and the reason the sanctions they put aginst Eritrea becouse Eritrea stoped being democratic state. what do i think of this as Eritrean thier things a like and i don't like about our government but i certainly don't like the west especially USA because of their sanction there is no economic movement it stoped trade with other counties and development, which force people to move out off our country.

It's remarkable how Eritrea 🇪🇷 STILL STANDING, despite enduring decades of unjust accusations and sanctions, has not only survived but thrived against Western pressures. The resilience of Eritrea in navigating through these challenges speaks volumes about its strength and determination. Furthermore, in recent times, Eritrea's perseverance has been recognized and supported by various nations like Egypt 🇪🇬, Russia 🇷🇺, China 🇨🇳, and Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦, underscoring a shift in global acknowledgment of its sacrifices and contributions. This ongoing solidarity serves as a testament to Eritrea's enduring spirit in the face of adversity.

good and thank you very much. In politics you can go lost in deteils. The conclusion can give you better insight, like This. Do you know Isaias,? Isaias is the one Who killed or expelled 90% of the Eritrean People. Ask yourself where are you now. Where are the others?? Politics is not easy. Read here: Isaias Afeworki has been conispiring with Weyane against the Eritrean people since 1975 until now 2024. As you know Isaias is still a CIA Agent. All remoted CIA Agents and propogandist who help Isaias to keep power represent Weyane as the enemy of Isaias inorder to hide and manipulate the fact that Isias Afeworki and Weyane have been working together to kill and expell the Eritrean people out of Eritrea and empitize Eritrea. Weyane has not only expelled Eritreans out of Ethiopia but also refused to help the Eritrean people to fight and overthrow Isaias Afeworki out of Power. And this is the truth. What is the aim of Weyan and Isaias Afeworki. They implemented artificial hunger and poverty in Eritrea and artificial permanent war between ERITREA and Weyane-Ethiopia to kill and expell the Eritrean people and empitize Eritrea. Finaly they wish to create greater Tigray after the extintion of the Eritrean People. And this is the truth.

@ 10:47 Just a quick correction: In 1991, it wasn't that the Ethiopian government withdrew from Eritrea. This is insane. I have seen this video 3 times and the history flow is good until the speaker twisted the most important part of the history. After the independence, All the problems came and started in 1998 when the Ethiopian regime announced war against Eritrea. I don’t understand Why do you choose not to say something about this 3 stages of war that cost those countries their hope to development. This is the main reason that makes Eritrea poor and the national service extended for over 18 months and undefined just to protect the country from a big country next to it. With the help of UN Ethiopia couldn’t agree to the binding Algers agreement between those 2 countries. You have been missing so most important moments that shapes this country to where it is now. But remember if Afewerki was a bad leader the people should throw him over as we see in every other countries. You should read more articles about Eritrea and deep stories before you make this kind of videos please.

Shortly after Ali Abdu fled Eritrea, his 87-year-old father, Abdu Ahmed Younis, was arrested and put in prison for five years. He died months after his release, according to Younis. It was not the first time he was detained by authorities. A 2004 Amnesty International report stated that the elder Younis was held in late 2001 for attempting to mediate between dissidents and the President. Ali Abdu’s younger brother Hassen Abdu Ahmed was also detained at the Sembel prison, where visitation rights are allowed, Younis said.

@senaisimon5802 he called Badme, Bad-way multiple times. He suggested that the TPLF and Eritrean government should have been natural allies based on ethnicity in 2020 which should have prevented the war. They haven't been anywhere close to allies for over 25 years and the idea that they should be allies because parts of Eritrea are ethnically similar to Tigray is wishful thinking and excludes the various geopolitical and historical issues in the region. My point is if you're going to make a video about this kind of topic, you should be buttoned up and crisp on your understanding of the situation. Everybody knows the situation in Eritrea is not great.
@STS-u1r
@STS-u1r 13 күн бұрын
@@RealTalk2000 Leaving pronunciation aside, his analysis of the situation was spot on. If you listen to the build up of the recent conflict, he begins by mentioning that Ethiopians were upset with the ruling Tigray government, which was a point of ethic conflict. As an outsider watching the events, anyone would assume that ethic peoples side with each other in conflict. It isn't unreasonable for someone to place emphasis that the people fighting are from the same ethic group. It would make news if Kurds in Turkey and Iraq started fighting each other or if Armenians in Armenia and Iran went to war.
@RealTalk2000
@RealTalk2000 13 күн бұрын
@STS-u1r I hear you and agree that this surface level analysis would be valuable for outsiders. With that said there are multiple instances of people from similar ethnic groups fighting (see Somali, Sudan and even Russia/East Ukraine and spots in the Middle East). Again, my point is if you're an outsider attempting to paint a picture of what is going on within another country, these mistakes/gaffes hurt the message, even if the message is generally "correct". The 1st time he showed Sebhat Ephraim and called him Isaias was a small gaffe but he did it again at the 7:03. At that point, I had to question if this video is serious or not.
@STS-u1r

She was lovely and a lot of fun to talk to, but one time I asked her about Eritrea and whether she missed it, and she completely flipped moods and spoke with complete venom of the country. You could tell she absolutely despised Afwerki (although she didn't mention him by name, just "the leaders"), and thought that the war to become independent was completely pointless, as it left them and the country in an even worse situation than before, which caused so many to leave. Never brought up the subject again with her after that.

Eh, it's hard to say... Colonialism sets up extractive institutions against the marginalized, no doubt. However, inclusive economic and political institutions heavily depend on pre-colonial outlook on institutions. Prior to colonialism, Eritrea was divided into different polities: Some were an Islamic vassal state of notables to the Ottomans (Habesh Eyalet), others being centralized Christian kingdoms (Hamassien). Based on what I read so far in Lords of the Red Sea by D'Auvray, it looks like they were pretty extractive, especially the Christian polities that were similar to the Ethiopian Empire in political structure: feudal, absolutist, and militarized extractive institutions. Those polities weren't united either, at least from what I understood. Its good to note that Ethiopia was never colonized, yet still had these characteristics that squandered it's chances of becoming a developed nation, despite it's strong history of centralization. Maybe it ends up being similar? It's also hard to see Eritrea ever uniting into the nation that it is today without one common enemy that created artificial borders, and another common enemy that helped solidify those borders by annexing it and subsequently committing some nasty atrocities. EDIT: I must note two things. Firstly, polities in the region we now know of today as Eritrea we're not static. They were subject to change. Secondly, in an alternate timeline where that region is never colonized by the Italians and is united into a nation parallel to Eritrea, it would be very difficult for that administration to destroy institutions of old and create new institutions that would turn out successful. There's only two nations I know of that did this: Turkey and Botswana. It's rare, very rare.

@@DavidGidey A couple of disagreements: -Inclusive economic and political institutions didn't exist in the majority of African polities (very few, expect the Tigrinya in "Hamassien", had a direct form of voting. However, you will be hard press to find one that included women, making them by definition extractive) -Prior to colonialism, ALL of Africa was divided into different polities. However, the Christian polities that you speak of in "Hamassien" (Modern Day Eritrea) practiced a form of direct democracy, including written by laws and penalties that were followed. This was in complete contrast to the political structure of Feudal Ethiopia. The form of self government was inclusive to members of villages, often times sharing land within a village between families and preventing land ownership to outsiders. -Although Ethiopia was not colonized it's formation as a nation happened in conjunction with the creation of the political entity of Eritrea. Menelik, our the father of modern day Ethiopia, created the borders through his expansion of the south, southwest and west, he never ruled over Eritrea or present day Eritrean land. He claimed Yohannes' kingdom after his death, but what is failed to be remembered is that the "Hamassien" was paying often in open conflict with Yohannes. It was a conquered land, never indigenous to the Tigray feudal order. Beyond that, the historic and demographic realties are actually different. Eritrea has more of a harmonious ethic relationship without the historical grievous that Ethiopia harbors. Lets not forget, Hadiya, Welega, Oromo, Harar, and Wolaita are all conquered land and all have a claim to some type of independence. Eritrea on the other hand doesn't have that issue, once their replace their awful government, they have a inclusive economic and political institutions to build on. Ethiopia is an empire, extractive in nature and can not stop.

21:18 I'm an Addis Ababa University student, and this is very true. All our professors, doctors, lecturers and instructors blame the TPLF for losing the access to the sea, siting that assab was Ethiopia's and that half of Eritrea's coastlines belong to the Afar people who live mostly in Ethiopia. Every class turns into a politics and history class with grievances against the TPLF Edit: every stupid person here is assuming that I'm considering my university teachers as true and right. I'm reflecting their thoughts to show you that indeed, what said in 21:18 is true, as many Ethiopian elders blame the TPLF. My personal ideas are not present here

I would like to also point out that after the Algiers agreement Eritrea wasn’t the one trespassing the border agreement but Ethiopia. @@Tom-2142 The Ogaden rightly belongs to Somalia, annexation is the wrong word, the correct term would be reunification. Over 90% of the Ogadens inhabitants are ethnic Somalis who were separated from their kin by an artificial colonial border. It is not a natural border. Ethnic Somalis have lived in those lands for centuries, To reiterate the correct term is reunification not annexation. Annexation implies a land grab for territory that doesn't historically belong to you and is illegitimate in nature, for example, the annexation of Hawaii by the USA in 1898. That isn't what Somalia attempted to do. It was far more legitimate in basis, more like an attempt at something like the Italian reunification of 1871 (Risorgimento) or the Spanish Reconquista of 1492. I can't think of a more moral reason to conduct warfare than for the reunification of a people. There is no better justification, they will likely attempt it again once they rebuild their military. They are a people nationalism comes easy to.

@@ibrahimhassan711 Well meaning of words aside, the Ethiopian kingdom has Ogaden within its borders before the Italians invaded, and when the British kicked the Italians out of the Horn of Africa in ww2, they restored Ethiopia under its pre war borders, it’s not as if the British had taken Ogaden from Italian Somalia is it? Besides how is Somalia going to get it back? It doesn’t even fully control its own borders and its states have a lot more autonomy than a central government should allow. Not to mention the population imbalance between Ethiopia and Somalia, the very weak Somali economy, lack of military or even much civilian industry in Somalia compared to Ethiopia which has a domestic military industry. Somalia cannot produce its own weapons and so must buy them from abroad, but if it wants to launch a war against Ethiopia, with what money would it buy the necessary massive quantities of ammunition, weapons etc?

On May 23rd, 2004, Eritrean authorities arrested two pastors from the Full Gospel Church in Eritrea: Dr. Kiflu Gebremeskel and Pastor Haile Nayzgi. The arrests were made in response to a government ban instituted in 2002 against all but four of the country's religious communities. Throughout 2004, arrests continued against pastors of the banned organization, which consisted of between 120 and 150 home church congregations at the time. Pastor Meron Gebreselasie was arrested in June 2004. Then in November of that year, Dr. Futsum Gebrenegus, Dr. Tekleab Mengisteab and Rev. Gebremedhin Gebregiorgis were also detained.
