It is difficult to capture the impact of this work in a video such as this one. I saw this piece many years ago at the MMA and never forgot its impact. The museum also had a video of Noguchi working on the piece. I don't remember it all but I do remember his kneeling and putting his face near the stones on which the large stone sits and checking the leveling. For such a quiet piece, just thinking about the concept, once having seen it, remains profound for me after more than 30 years.

Whoops. I guess it was 25 years ago and not 30 that I saw this piece, since it was installed in 1987. For students I would recommend the installation video, title: Isamu Noguchi Water Stone (no comma), also on youtube.
