Ischgl is located at an altitude of 1,400 meters above sea level in the west part of Austria, on the border of Switzerland.
In this video we’ll show you everything you need to know before planning a vacation to Ischgl, and if you stay until the end of this video, you’ll get some great tips that will help you to make better decisions and save you time and money!
The closest airports to Ischgl are Innsbruck, Friedeichshafen and Memmingen, with transfer times of 1 hour and 20 minutes, 2 hours and 5 minutes, and 2 hours and 17 minutes accordingly.
Another two major airports, Zurich and Munich, are close by too, with transfer times of 2 hours and 35 minutes and 3 hours and 9 minutes respectively.
If you travel in through Zurich, Memmingen or Friederichshafen, be aware that the Silvretta pass is closed during winter. Some built-in car GPS systems might send you that way by mistake, so make sure you check before you travel.
Ischgl is considered one of the best ski resorts in the world and is well known for its state-of-the-art lift systems, great apres ski, and many off-piste areas.
The ski area of Ischgl is called Silvretta ski area, named after the Silvretta mountain range which make the border between Austria and Switzerland as well as Tirol and Vorlarlberg.
The ski area is a united ski area for both Ischgl and the Swiss duty-free village of Samnoun and includes 239km of ski runs, 90% of which are more than 2,000 meters above sea level, making it the best late- season ski area in Austria.
The ski season in Ischgl is one of the longest in the world and runs from late November all the way until early May.
The Silvretta ski area has 45 ski lifts, and is comprised of 47km of blue runs, 143km of red runs, 34km of black runs and 15km of ski routes, which are kind of inspected off-piste slopes.
There are 3 cable cars available to take you from the village:
First, the Silvretta, that will take you to the Idalp area at an atitude of 2,300 metres; Second, the Fimba, that will take you to the same place;
and finally, the new Pardachgrat cable car that will lift you to the Prdachgrat peak, at an altitude of 2,650
metres.
We recommend booking a hotel near the Fimba lift because it has less lines compared to both the Silvretta an Pardachgrat cable cars, which are both situated next to large parking lots, and are therefore much busier as they serve all the skiers that come from other towns in the Paznoun Valley.
The Idalp area is the hub of the ski area and from there you can continue to many other peaks or ski back to the village and other lifts.
The Idalp area also serves as the meeting point of the ski school.
The most outstanding fact of the Idalp area is that it has the highest concert stage in Europe and every year, at the end of the season festival, big stars like Rihanna, Beyoncé and many others, perform.
One of the most unique things in Ischgl is to ski along run 80 aka duty free run.
Sequence dutyfree run- 30 seq- 1 minute
This 10km long red run will take you to Samnoun.
You can bypass the village if you want, but we recommend you to take a break there, and explore the lovely village.
Today, you can find most of the products there, cheaper online, or at the supermarket in your home town, but the story of making a duty-free shopping in Switzerland in the middle of your day of skiing is a good story to tell or to upload to Instagram.
From Samnaun you can take the double decker cable car that can carry as many as 180 skiers at one
time, and is one of the largest cable cars in the world!
If you want to have a great Ischgl apres ski experience, we recommend that that you’ll grab your first beer at Paznauner Taja which is the most popular on-mountain apres ski in the region.
From there, you can ski directly to Trofana alm, stay there until the party is over around 7 or 8, and then continue to Kuhstall.
In Kuhstall, the party continues right up until 4 am, or if you prefer, you can move on at around midnight, either to Fire & Ice on the other side of the square, or go to the hotel post-club. Alternatively, finish you night at Pacha.

For anyone shopping at Samaun, there is a customs hut when you get the left back up to Viderjoch - on the border, so you may face a customs check and, if you have exceeded your duty free limit, pay duty. .

When you take the duty free samnaun run remember to bring your passport. I didn't and was afraid of being refused acess across the border. We did get checked by the police on the way back. We had to show what we bought but thankfully didnt need to show ID. and yes, paznauer taya is the best. Look for some guy dressed up as a Russian KGB agent. He's always there.
@niek3839
@niek3839 5 жыл бұрын
That not needed as Switzerland is part of the Schengentreaty, meaning free travel within Europe. You only have to show you ID/Passport when you cross a border of a country that is not part of this treaty. However, bringing ID is never a bad thing. It only helps to have it on you when accidents happen or something like that.

Ishcgl is my favourite resort in the world, I was out there this year when they shut the the resort for Covid-19. I would also highly recommend going to Galtur for a day, it is an easy ski day and has some great runs, it is only 20 minuets on the bus from Ischgl. If you miss the English pub while out there then the Golden Eagle is always a good spot.

Public transport; I travelled to Ischgl from Munich Airport, getting the tube from Airport to Munchen Hauptbahnhof ( or you can get off at Munchen Ost -)and onward by train to Innsbruck, then getting train from Innsbruck to Landek Zams and finally get the connecting bus, outside the train station, directly to Ischgl. Alternatively you can catch a FlixBus from outside the airport terminal which travels into Munich and then on to Innsbruck and drops passengers close to train station. Flixbus takes longer than by train but is much cheaper; I paid 21 euro from airport to Innsbruck - best to book bus ticket online to ensure a seat.

@@amblincork No, it's still wrong. Check the chronology of 'COVID'. The timespan in question is early to mid-March 2020. The very name 'COVID' was barely a month old at the time and by far not universally used yet. In Austria the first cases were reported in early March, but the exponential growth in China in the months before and the growing problems in Italy were known to authorities and there were serious discussions in government circles about closing the tourism season early. And there was already troubling feedback from a number of European countries claiming that their returning tourists had brought back COVID in numerous cases and there was probably an infection hotspot in Tyrol. Enter the Tyrolean Tourism Tycoons. They were fighting like hell to postpone measures and well positioned to do so with their political clout. When finally first measures (like stopping the idiotic binge drinking evenings) were enacted they simply ignored them for a number of days, and when finally a lockdown was planned their cronies in the local chamber of commerce leaked the info early and produced an absolutely chaotic mass-exodus which helped spread the virus further. All well documented, check the press of the time, even the whitewash local enquiry commission report is damning enough. Again: use sources, not opinions. And don't suppose you can ever know what thousands of other people were knowing or thinking at a given time. You don't.
