Its been years since Tokyo Ghoul re came to an end. I still think about the series to this day and how much emotion I have for it. Earlier today a interview came out about Ishida Sui the Author of TG saying it wasn't a success aka it was a failure in his eyes.

It's tough making it out there. Ishida is very meticulous and a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to writing stories. Still, I like how his thought process towards creating stories is explored is human. We all have doubts about accomplishing our own individual goals and he's not afraid to express them

I understand how he feels. As a writer I am a perfectionist who judges my own work very harshly, so much so I keep rewriting my work because I feel the quality has become outstripped by my ability. But I wish Ishida could appreciate Tokyo Ghoul, it's not only amazing, it not only helped me out of a dark place, but it inspired me to be serious about my writing. I would not be where I am without Tokyo Ghoul/

I mean it’s his opinion and everything, but I think objectively, it was a **good** manga. It sold well, had interesting characters, had a cool power system, great fights, interesting twists, and a diverse cast of interesting, developed characters (something not everyone can do). He wrote wonderfully through pretty much all the manga until near the end, but it was admittedly due to burnout. Tokyo Ghoul was probably popular with a large audience, like Attack on Titan, since it had great action, great psychology, and just an overall good story.

Imagine writing a story for 7 years and hoping to create a certain type of story in the beginning and writing yourself into a corner and still wanting to write a good story. He might have lost sight of his original story/art halfway through. I’d imagine the whole thing would leave a bad taste in my mouth if it wasn’t about the money but the story.

Tokyo Ghoul means so much to me. To see Ishida say that it wasn’t a success hurts, but I can’t say that it was unexpected. It made me think back when TG Root A was still airing, to which the studio threw out Ishida’s drafts for the season and wrote out a messy script of their own. Ishida really wants a lot of freedom when it came to his creative process, and I’m not sure if that event might have affected him. I also enjoyed the ending to the manga, but it’s kinda sad to see most of the audience approach it differently. Even talking about it, now, makes me hope for TG to be given the Brotherhood treatment.

I liked Toyko Ghoul. I did feel like the latter half of RE felt like it was going both everywhere and nowhere for a while. But I can also understand the conflict of wanting to reach a natural conclusion for both yourself and the people reading and also having done the series for years and having a sense of burnout in your mind that makes you want to just reach the finish line.

The full collection on my shelf doesn't convince me that it wasn't successful, it was more than that. I loved the ride of Tokyo ghoul and Re: the mangas, they were both one of the best series of all manga I have read and believe both deserve all the praise they got and haven't, now having said that the Anime had its problems and are responsible for some of the hype dying down they started strong with season 1 which followed most of the manga but change the ending a tad but it worked and told the same story but season 2 was straight disrespectful to the original manga with cutting content fans wanted to see and telling a different story that went nowhere and by the time season 3 and 4 came out to try and save face and tell the original story the production and animation fell off losing more fans that's how I felt about it.

I’ve seen shows and series that had a promising start only to the later on either go up and down constantly or just nosedive for the most part. I love tokyo ghoul it was one of the first series i became obsessed with. It means so much to me to this day. Part 1 isolated from part 2 was so good its amongst my favorite fictional media. But part 2 to me personally was so shaky and felt inconsistent I didnt like the payoff and the balancing of the larger cast characters from part 1 got pushed aside and I didnt grow connected to all the characters it felt like part 2 was trying to get me to care about. It has some good highs and many meh moments. But the good highs imo only reached part 1 but never surpassed part 1 and alongside all the shaky moments too, part 2 just falls below. Also to me personally the ending was just ok. And I will say furata felt like a weak final antagonist. Too much trolling not enough actual character. And his threats always felt underwhelming even though there were stakes when reading. Also dont get me started on how they concluded the doctor who started it all. I agree with him offing himself at the end but his motivation and threat level felt disappointing too. So tokyo ghoul is good overall but it had some flaws that really bothered me. Also the fighting and power system got out of control in re. I didnt like how the combat evolved. It felt so dangerous and technical part 1. And each fight and blow felt so real and tense. it became just who has the flashier kagura and higher levels of ghoul reading (i forgot the term) the fight panelling and choreo was all flashyness and barely any actual structure behind each blow Also kaneki even though technically he was stronger in part 2, has really satisfying fights part 1 for how weak he was but part 2 he feels so weak. And he was supposed to be amongst the strongest but it never felt like that. He got so many satisfying victories part 1 but his few victories in part 2 always felt cheap to me. (Eto and the white haired op dude wanted him to win and then whether he was holding back because of how much he likes juuzou he didnt win too. What meaningful fights did he actually win part 2. Furata felt underwhelming and then rize was just a mindless zombie at the end) Alsl throughout part 1 i loved his struggle with his human and ghoul side and it took a toll on him with how he desended into insanity. But part 2 just brushes aside that problem with his amnesia that hes given and mostly throws away all that conflict under the rug. It still emerges when hes regaining his memory but i wouldve loved him confronting it head on. finding it from the himself in part 1 like he was at the end of part 1 instead of him being reset in part 2. and it just being resolved naturally as he gets his memories back. The final arc of part 1 was so good and cool then it threw it all away part 2. My preference for what i wish happened: White hair dude shouldve let him barely get away after beating him up not leaving him on the brink of death to capture him

Tokyo Ghoul started amazing, but went downhill, same with Re and maybe because the release schedule was to much for him. The first season of the anime was amazing, the chapters the second season would cover was where the story went downhill, so I understand why they decided change it in anime, but it's just became worse.

I thought for the ending for the manga was good and it was better than the anime because in the anime they skip a lot of things from the manga so the ending of the manga was good and same goes for Akame ga kill because the manga was better than the anime I still want that series to get a remake and I wouldn't mind if the studio remake season 2 and 3 because they did skip so many things from the manga

I watched Tokyo Ghoul season 1 a while ago and thought it was so mediocre. If it weren't for Kaneki's edgy style and a banger OP I don't think Tokyo Ghoul would've had the success it did

I didsagree with him. The first part of Tokyo Ghoul was a 9-10/10. The second part,re ,was a 7-8/10,due to it being slow and listless in the beginnings, and ironically being convoluted and kinda rushed at the end( alot of storylines either ended or began to late into the story). The art in re, is better than the first part, and it is great. All in all its like an 8.5/10 series for me. I am happy Ken ended happily married with Touka, and that she wasn't killed off as some nonsense tragedy like in Gurren Lagan.

Ghouls can't be friends with humans? No they HAVE to mingle with humans and pretend to be normal to live. It was like they have to put up a facade to live.

I literally loved Tokyo ghoul and it’s still my favorite manga out there. However it does have its flaws. Do those flaws make it a non-successful manga? Hell no. This manga/anime is beloved by hundreds of thousands of people. For very good reason

I thought Sui said it was the ending that was not what he truly wanted but it was perfect lol. But overall he is right that the story does have less off showcase but it's perfect lmao. I mean idk exactly are people misunderstanding him or what wtf I mean if he wanted it to have successful in his eyes he would need go to deeper like he said he wanted to but didn't have the time or resource uuuf. I did hear the ending of Tokyo Ghoul was not what he originally wanted or what? I mean it's true it's bitter sweet and sad but it's perfect that way too. Idk Tokyo Ghoul is perfect but as successful we'll it's loved it's talked about thanks to the main character lol I refuse to believe Sui doesn't consider the Tokyo Ghoul as successful I refuse to believe that but as for ending yeah it was bitter sweet rushed too and sad. But it was perfect that way idk. Unless he means as of the manga itself lol he is too humble and cute lol I can't understand it beautiful mangaka just like Miura yes lol Also it got popular thanks to him Feral lol and so on. Tokyo Ghoul is part of perfect mangas but he is so beautiful when it comes to wanting to have it success. I mean the main character said it was perfect and it's exactly how it is like in real life. But yeah I get it Sui did the impossible with this manga I love how he is so deep towards everything jeez lol yes uuuf
