Also known as the Fishbone Diagram, the Ishikawa Diagram was developed in 1943 by Kaoru Ishikawa, a Japanese chemical engineer who has since helped many people understand the root causes of problems and relate an effect to its possible causes. Throughout the video I will walk you through a fictitious example if Nike were having a real problem with their products, and from this example you will see how to make an Ishikawa diagram and learn to relate the cause and effect of the problems.
Despite being founded by a chemical engineer and initially having its application in this area, the Ishikawa Diagram is widely used in many different areas, not just in engineering. This is because, like other tools that we have already discussed here on the Channel, it helps you to find in an organized and structured way the connection between the cause and effect of the problems, find their real origins so that it is possible to solve problems once and for all. rather than just solving your symptoms.
Usually used to solve more complex problems, the Ishikawa Diagram guides you through a process to help you not leave any possible causes behind. And that's why it's super important that you develop your Fishbone Diagram together with other people who may also be related to the problem to be explored.
