[ materials] sawdust + candle wax
Preparing for winter in between work.
Firewood was splitted around May.
* Candle wax is easily flammable, so please do not put it on an open flame. Also, be careful not to overheat.

I love it! My Dad showed me how to make something similar when I was a kid. Mix sawdust and wax and put it in a paper egg carton. Then cut it apart and light it up egg carton and all. Thanks for the good memories.

Nice if you've got lots of sawdust, my Dad had a large jar - 5-6 pints? - filled with pure alcohol and he just chucked wine corks in (got to be real cork) bingo! firelighters. One drawback (?) is having to empty the wine bottles first...

If you had just showed me the pellets at 1:20 I would have guessed that they are made by some form of continuous extrusion process, whereby an auger squeezes hot feedstock through a hexagonal hot-end, and a pasta-style chopper at its tip chops the extruded bar into smaller pieces.

you should try to puts the big logs at the bottom of the pile, and the small kindle wood on it and then the fire starters on top of it. It seems to make no sens to do so, but this will reduce the amount of pollution when your fire starts.

Just be careful not to confuse the stuff with breadcrumbs when frying schnitzel! Otherwise, of course, a great tip. And I always love the balanced, calm but decisive execution of the associated work - something that seems to be getting lost more and more in modern IT-controlled modernism. Let's stand up against it!

Great to see the process! Wondering if the same could be achieved using all-natural materials? For example mixing the sawdust with pine resin? Curious to hear your thoughts!
@cfmcgheeII
@cfmcgheeII 6 ай бұрын
Pine resin does not fully burn up, and leaves a residue wherever the smoke goes. Plus, you would not be able to use this for starting grill charcoal, as the residue gives everything a nasty taste.
@rudlterranigma5386
@rudlterranigma5386 5 ай бұрын
Resin usually tends to blow up when burning which make nice crackle sounds in the ofen, but would stop the firestarters

What does the wax do to your oven, fireplace or fire pit once the starters are consumed? I imagine it would melt into the ashes, and either be really easy to clean up in clumps like kitty litter, or incredible difficult to remove from surfaces.

Wax is a high molecular weight hydrocarbon. When heated it first melts, then vapourises. The vapour combines with atmospheric oxygen to form carbon dioxide and water. It burns. Like a candle.
