Dustin Glenn Poirier (born January 19, 1989) is an American professional mixed martial artist. He currently competes in the Lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he is a former Interim UFC Lightweight Champion. As of April 16, 2024, he is #4 in the UFC lightweight rankings.
Islam Ramazanovich Makhachev[1] (Russian: Ислам Рамазанович Махачев; born 27 October 1991) is a Russian professional mixed martial artist and former sambo competitor. He currently competes in the Lightweight division in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he is the current UFC Lightweight Champion. Makhachev has competed professionally since 2010, along with becoming a combat sambo world champion in 2016 and two-time Russian national champion at 74 kg (2014, 2016). As of 7 November 2023, he is #1 in the UFC men's pound-for-pound rankings.

I would absolutely LOVE to see Poirier win the Championship vs Islam vis GUILLOTINE!!! I know I'm dreaming but I DO DREAM BIG personally anyways so I am holding out hope for it to really happen! A win by Poirier in any way would be great just to see him win the Real Lightweight Championship at the end of his career as a way to top off his dominant career! Plus, if Poirier wins then that guarantees us at least another fight or 2 or 3 from him until he loses the belt which will give him a few really big $ fights as well which he deserves. Either way, can't wait to see the fight!!!

This matchup is weird. Even though the rankings are a fiction, he just doesn't make sense. If he had beaten Justin, then yes, but he got knocked out. That puts Arman as the real #1 contender now with Max #2, Charles #3. Oh well, gotta love Dustin, I hope he puts on a good performance.

Dustin is an excellent fighter with a lot of experience but it's really hard to imagine him beating Islam. It would be crazy if he finally gets his guillotine for the win.

I think Makhachev will dominate Poirier. Arman Tsarukyan is the only real problem. the look in his eyes, as if he knows something we don't Between Khabib, Islam, Umar and Usman they have 1 loss, blame Islam 😂 4 Fighters. That is incredible !!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ and still .... ?

There is Movsar Evloev too, not sure if he trains with them all the time but he does, if anyone has a chance to neutralize Topuria standup in 145 its Movsar. He is also undefeated just like the champion.

Makhachev already beat Tsarukyan. To be fair, it was Tsarukyan's UFC debut & he gave Makhachev his most difficult fight other than his sole loss to Martins. That being said, Makhachev had a terrible staph infection fighting Tsarukyan & still managed to win. Can Tsarukyan win? Of course, its MMA, anyone can win/lose on a given night. And Arman is an exceptionally skilled fighter especially on the ground which is Makhachev's bread & butter. However, Makhachev is still better on the ground but more importanly his striking has improved by leaps & bounds... which is what I believe will be the deciding fa factor

Dustin vs Dan Hooker might be the best fight I ever saw. Him and Max had a good one. I'd actually like to see them run it back. Max looked incredible vs Justin. Maybe Max can do somethin at 155 now And that rematch that Alexander took with Islam is exactly why you shouldn't take fights when you're not ready. Alexander got fucked on that. He couldn't really say no.. he was ready to be a back up fighter 1st time Islam beat Charles but he was not at all ready the 2nd time. He stepped up to save that card and he got fucked for it big time. Maybe Islam would've won anyway. Maybe Ilia Topuria would've won anyway but it sucks to see it happen like that. Alex would've been made out to be the bad guy had he turned that down. I don't think anyone else would taken it in his position. He's got a big heart and he got fucked so major time for that. I hope he got paid,that's all I can say.

Islam's reign is beginning to look like khabib's......selective in his title defences for maximum benefits and minimal real danger...never heard a peep about 170lb until Leon became champ, now he sees an opportunity for a perfect match up to be able to dribble about double champ....I'm simply over the chess like approach and the absolute dribble that is put forward as reasons and excuses attached to this team.
