As a child, my earliest sailing memories are sailing from Liverpool to the IOM for family holidays at my grandparents smallholding in Santon. Later, When in my teens (1970’s), as I boarded, I would ask if a family friend, who was also Commodore of the fleet was captain on the day. When the answer was yes and having heard I was aboard, I would be offered his cabin for the trip over, complete with cabin service. Loved it. Love the island too.

Good choice of music. Elgar, 'In the South'. I was lucky enough to spend holidays in the IOM in its heyday - the 1950's. I loved those old ships, they seemed like ocean liners to a 10 year old!

The Lady of Mann was a hell of a ship, beautiful. I was born in the same year as the Mona's Queen so was great to see her arrival in Douglas looking her best. I found her old name flag in the attic this morning. Also a video of the Manxman leaving Belfast for the last time, will have to upload it. These are fantastic videos.

many thanks for such an amazing archive. I was very young when I saw the Lady of Man leave the Island for the last time, I cried then, I cried again watching your footage, so glad you recorded it.

+manxguy65 Thank you for your comment. I was standing on the Fort Anne car park when the LADY left for the last time - it was quite beautifully done as she backed into Douglas Bay so far that I thought she would be aground by the Derby Castle. Then she came storming past the harbour at 22 knots, blowing her magnificent triple chime whistle continuously. I don't know if you saw the MANXMAN leave for the last time in September 1982 - what a total mess that was - I don't know what Peter Corrin was thinking about. By the way, I was Purser of the KING ORRY in 1973, 74 and 75. John Shepherd.

Wonderful old footage. So grateful you have shared this. I've sailed to the Island over fifty times. I remember being on the old steamers from the late sixties onwards!

Remember going to the TT races and we had to have our bikes hoisted on by cranes!

What beautifully nostalgic footage this is.The people waving as the ship departs Llandudno at 11.00 made me think how this life is so short and how they will most probably all be dead now.Wonderfull memories captured forever well done.

Northernspotter101 Hi - very many thanks for your kind remarks about my IOMSPCo videos. It seems no time time since I was on the Isle of Man and on board the ships taking the 8mm cine film which for the most part is between 50 and 55 years old ! They were indeed happy days, and it's a way of life that has disappeared for ever. John Shepherd.

Thank you John for a wonderful message, I thought I had imagined the Lady of Man leaving in such a dramatic way, I was 6 at the time, but your footage proved the memory right!

The ships of the 1950s-70s were such handsome vessels. As a child whenever I drew a ship it always looked like an IOMSPC ship.

So nostalgic, I loved those ships as a kid, used to go for a swim in Douglas Bay before my mum and dad were up. Happy days.

I was with my family on the pier on the day the SS Lady of Mann left Douglas for the last time. I had to block my ears as three or four steamers sounded their whistles in reply to the Lady's frequent blasts. My ears were ringing for the rest of that day! Its sad there is no sound but all credit to John Shepherd Well Done!

Maybe the 1976 motor vessel, a long lived and worthy successor to the 1930 steamer without her war service
