Started on the Starboard Whopper 10' x 34". Super wide so it was very stable, but quickly graduated to a more advanced board for better wave riding.

The two nylon loops on the deck are not enough for some of the kayak seats that need to be anchored in 4 places. The Explorer 2.0 appears to have a set of D rings in addition to these 2 loops, so then, is that model more suited when used as a kayak? I realize the dimensions of the two models are slightly different, but otherwise, this kayak thing is important to me in deciding between the Pioneer and Explorer 2.0 models. The kit appears to be the same too.

If you are looking to attach a kayak seat then I'd recommend the Pioneer Pro model. It's BY FAR the best SUP / Kayak combo board we've ever tested. You can see our review here: www.supboardguide.com/isle-10-6-pioneer-pro-review/ Downside is that it is more expensive, so if that's a deal breaker than you can still make the Pioneer 2.0 work by using he rear d-rings (just make sure your kayak kit has long enough attachments to reach that far). However, the Explorer 2.0 is a bit easier to attach a kayak seat to.

Would you get this or the irocker cruiser ultra?

It depends on the person. If you need a board that can be extremely portable and can be stored in such small spaces, then the Cruiser Ultra would probably be the way to go. However, if storage and portability aren't as limiting of factors, and you need an incredible amount of stability for a great price, then we'd recommend the Pioneer 2.0.

I see that you had rolled it from back to front. I've been having a tough time rolling mine the recommended way from front to back because the side fins and fin box don't lay flat by the time the board is all rolled up. Thoughts? Are you concerned about the side fins digging into the deck pad?

We generally find back to front is easier, but either way should be fine from a durability standpoint.

The linear dimension of the travel bag adds up to 63”, will airport check-in be a problem? Max is 62”… should I just expect oversize baggage? Any experience with this?

That's always a tough one. One thing I've done flying with paddleboards is ask them to tightly wrap the bag at check-in. Not only does this help protect your board/accessories /bag, but it may also help get it into a more compact shape to fit within their parameters.
