The Sickening (Canoe Paddling Days 1)
When I was in high school, I paddled Canoe for the Hawaiian Canoe Club. It was a hell of a great time. There were chicks all over and I looked great because of all the exercise and sun. Also, there were huge parties the night before and usually of the regattas (races) which was awesome.
One night before a race, I loaded up on spaghetti (my favorite!) during the party and didn't drink. I didn't want to have a hangover the next morning.
My heat started at 9am and I was 5th seat out of six. The sixth seat is the steersman. I remember being very, very nervous going in. This was my first race. I didn't get much sleep the night before. I was too excited. I was so excited that my stomach was in a knot.
I got into the fifth seat of the outrigger canoe which is second to last. The last and sixth seat is the steersman. We lined up with the other race canoes as the holders kept us stable. A holder is a person in the water literally holding the canoes in place. One of the holders was right next to me in the water. His hand on the rail just behind me. My nerves kicked in hard. My stomach groaned. I started to panic...
And then I threw up all that spaghetti...RIGHT in front of the holder. Like literally inches from his face. Everyone in my canoe was like "CURT NOOOOOO NO CURT NOOOOOO!". I was like "BB LRJLLBLBLRKRKBB".
The dude in the water...DID. NOT. FLINCH. He was like "Gross!" and kept holding the canoe. I apologized profusely but didn't have time to react to anything other than the announced "READY!" from the steersman behind me.
The race was about to frickin' start!! There was nothing I could do. I felt sick AF and probably could have puked more! Paddles up was announced and it was time to go. OH SHIT. The gun popped and we were off.
I had no choice but to handle it and paddle my ass off which I did. I remember the water being like glass. There was no wind that day so we were absolutely flying. I just kept staring at the water and how fast we were going. I thought of nothing else and before I knew it, the half-mile was done...and we won! lol. We frickin' won.
I never saw that guy again.

They're great. The vulcanized rubber is so much more breathable and doesn't get as sweaty as cheap silicone based rubber straps.

I think the yellow on yellow and black on black look the best. I wish the straps were a little shorter, but I guess it's meant to go over a wet suit.

Yeah I have had good luck with Bonetto Cinturini, have the orange one and it also smells of vanilla. These Isofranes seem to be softer and more pliable, perhaps they last longer too. My first Bonetto Cinturini did wear out and crack after about a year and a half of hard use, wearing almost daily.

blindriv3r fair enough. It would be cool to see a long term comparison of a few brands to see how they hold up. Personally, I’ve used Barton elite silicone straps and they’ve lasted a long time and still look new. I will add that I rotate watches a lot so it could very well be a factor. However, I still think 140 bucks is a lot for a silicone strap

@@mariog7213 Isofrane are rubber, and since the rubber is so soft like silicone, I guess that is why they are so costly

Nice! I really like the Vostok on that one.... Maybe the yellow wasn't a perfect match, but it was really close.... I just got up, my brain is barely working, but I was kinda like, hmmm, I could probably buy the Vostok for nothing... Hmmmm.... They're not cheap, I see... For me personally, I mean, I have several Miltat Strapcode variants... those aren't cheap either. If it's really well done, and high quality, I guess I don't mind paying... Maybe you could comment, if, in your humble opinion, the quality was commensurate with the price.... They look very thick, also, which I like.... That's what she said!!! What you're going to find is, any kind of "serious" diving strap, is going to be LONG, for any wearer, to be honest... Because the real diving pros are putting it on over a wetsuit, so it has to be much bigger to fit when worn that way... At that price point, you would have to have the real life diving pros in mind... Not just the deskdivers like myself... So, it's going to be long. For me, that's part of the charm, or the experience, that it's pretty long.... and of course, that's what she said.... Great job on this one!

I’ve got one on a Doxa and I love it. I usually use the bracelet but i swap it when s**t gets crazy...in the water. S**t doesn’t get crazy...I just use it for water stuff.

Very nice, what spring bar did you use on your Monster, the normal Seiko Fat spring bar with the 1.1m tip or thinner aftermarket one?

I used thinner springbars for the video to make it easier for me to swap them. There's definitely room for the fat bars!

After the original Miami Vice series with Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas in the 80's, Don Johnson starred in another series with Cheech Marin that was also produced by Michael Mann called Nash Bridges and it was A damn good show. There's even an episode where Don Johnson Philip Michael Thomas Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong are all in the same episode together it's quite hilarious. To top it off even Stone Cold Steve Austin plays in the series. There were 7 seasons of the show that were made but only the first six seasons were aired due to a legal issue the last season was never aired, however it was finished but the only way to get the last season is to buy the box set from start to finish which is exactly what I did courtesy of eBay 😋 .

lol. I just haven't been motivated by anything lately. Those cheap Seiko 5's which are now discontinued for a gold mine for modding. I do have on planned but it's a special one and has to be at the right time. But yeah, I should do another full on mod. I have to think about it!

While expensive, they are really nice straps. I have an Aquadive, they come with these. It works really good with the larger divers. It was surprised it worked as good with your pics. Funny thing is the Vostok costs less then the strap. They are made in Italy, to be specific, it said on the back. Also, the buckle is signed on the bottom. I used to have Stompers too. I had the Subaru Hatchback. Really unfortunate for the kids today they don’t have something like Stompers anymore.

I have three Stompers in my collection, I played with them so much when I was a kid that my mom would ration the batteries! That spaghetti incident would have been tragic if you would have lost the race! Canoe racing, nothing more Hawaiian than that!

See that black monster: I seem to remember you going 'oo yeah, it's gorgeous and all but oo, ee, ah, the price' like it was a major minus. Buchew ain't got much to say on that score as regards an extortionate (about £150 or something in my country) rubber strap (nice buckle, by the way). Vanilla scent or no scent: fuck that! I'd buy the Ali silicone copy for £1.67, plus a bottle of Armani Code, and just dowse the thing with that.

I saw the video thumbnail and went: cool, nice rubber straps. Then 10 seconds in I saw the pricing. Haha, I think they sniffed too much burnt rubber themselves! No way José. Also super funny when you put that yellow strap on your Восток... A strap that's more expensive than the watch itself.... Super hard pass!
