I can't begin to tell you all how grateful I am for your positive response to the score of "Wizards". A big thank you to Ralph Bakshi for trusting me. I've been so blessed that you folks like the work I did. Thank you, sincerely.You never know when you start on a project what the reaction will be to your music.Specially a score for an iconic film like this. Only Time will Tell.

@@MorBroProductions Mr. Belling, this was an amazing soundtrack...and one that has stuck with me since I first heard it. This track especially. The bass work, the guitar, keys...all of it. I have been trying to find a place to either get it digitally or on CD. Any ideas sir?
@shazrael4462 жыл бұрын
Wait did Bakshi himself give this to you? This wasn't from some CD or album? That's amazing! And good on you and him. I love wizards. If I could, I'd want to go see the timeline where Wizards got more sequels and a video game.

When you think about it, Blackwolf's army has to be one of the more tragic depictions of humanity in post-apocalyptic media. After a nuclear war, they mutated into fantasy creatures such as demons or orcs, and were forced to watch a world that once belonged to them get taken over by new races (Fairies, elves, pixies, etc.); only when Blackwolf led them they had any sort of chance of taking it back, but they failed, and eventually went extinct.

Progressive rock was also popular at that time. Also, I've heard that this movie's theme was against technology, as sort of 'back to nature' ideology that was trendy at that time. I hadn't been born yet, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

The movie is a bit hypocritical, when you think about it. The story preaches against technology, the same technology that was used to make the groovy soundtrack. Oh, and Avatar kills Blackwolf with a PISTOL, even after trying to keep everyone else from having technology. A line from Blackwolf: '....enough to keep mutants in their place' was telling. I can see the people from the good lands being snobby and elitist. They also have tech, the same tech they want to keep out of everyone else's hands. Today's "liberals" are like that. They virtue-signal all day long about equality, but are themselves closet aristocrats. They own guns, drive inefficient SUVs and fly around in private jets to lecture the unwashed masses about our "carbon footprint."

Ralph Bakshi, despite the flaws in his animation (or perhaps BECAUSE of them) always blew the shit out of even classic Disney in my book...so much crustiness and heart.
@BigTuk5 жыл бұрын
Bakshi's greatest flaw was his overuse of Rotoscope. If he could have mustered the artistic and animation quality of say, Don Bluth mein Gott we wouldn't be talking about Disney these days. But
@RedwoodTheElf4 жыл бұрын
@@BigTuk I would say that the Rotoscoping is pretty much Bakshi's style. Some of the scenes are barely rotoscope at all, and are virtually just Monochromed/tinted scenes from war movies with a few Glowing eyes, wings and fangs added. The scenes from "Zulu" and "Zulu Dawn" are particularly noticeable.

Just amazing. I remember being rather disheartened when the mutants launched those German warplanes near the end. I was like, what?!? So they lost?! Of course the movie wasn't over yet so there was more to come. Great scene.
@EagleTimberWolf7 жыл бұрын
What I found disheartening was the Nazi propaganda footage backed up by the very last track in the video - the film used WWII as a symbol of war and corruption, and it really showed when the elves lost the battle. It showed that even in a futuristic world, war and corruption were just as abundant as they were in the 30's. It also brought me back to a quote from one of the fairies earlier in the movie- "they have technology and machines, all we have is love"
@OttoMattak7 жыл бұрын
Silver Feral Thunderbird Personally I thought the film reel footage was a brilliant move on the part on Bakshi.

I always thought if it as a metaphor for the death of the age of chivalry and magic in the face of industrialized warfare and propaganda. Or rather, the end of a fantasy world where good and evil were always so cleanly delineated, replaced by the harsh reality of modern warfare, where “good” and “evil” are traits no longer defined by any balanced moral code of ethics, but are defined by the “us” vs. “them” dialectic of modern nationalism. The faerie folk are thus doomed not because their cause is weak (after all, they are fighting for their own homes) but because their enemies are technologically superior and fanatically resolved to destroy them. They can fight as bravely as can, muster every ounce of spirit in them, and for time, even seem to have the upper hand, proving once and for all that good will always triumph evil. But then here comes the Luftwaffe.....
