Capt. Matthew Hoh had nearly twelve years experience with the US military and the wars overseas with the United States Marine Corps, Department of Defense and State Department.
He has been a Senior Fellow with the Center for International Policy since 2010. In 2009, Matthew Hoh resigned in protest from his post in Afghanistan with the State Department over the American escalation of the war. Prior to his assignment in Afghanistan, Matthew took part in the American occupation of Iraq; first in 2004-2005 in Salah ad Din Province with a State Department reconstruction and governance team and then in 2006-2007 in Anbar Province as a Marine Corps company commander. When not deployed, Matthew worked on Afghanistan and Iraq war policy and operations issues at the Pentagon and State Department from 2002-2008.

Nice report and thanks to Matt . Just want to add this comment. A lot of people don't know but I think Israel does know. A whole lot of Palestinians they've been there for generations and they don't know that they're actually Jews. Israel does but they can't accept it. Used to be all Israel but then I think Rome came in and changed the name to Palestine. But before all that it used to be Jebus. And that goes on with the Hannibal directive. Cuz if they were tested actually tested you'll find the Jewish blood the lineage.

I appreciate all you say. I do understand that Palestinians have been there since ancient times. Truly indigenous. Very likely, most were once Jews, then either retained that faith or their people long ago converted to another religion. Yes, there are still Palestinian Jews, speaking of the faith. I think there is a very serious problem with our concept of 'Jew', due to Israeli preference for a fuzzy definition. We need clarity. Is 'Jewish' an ethnic term? or does it mean that a person is an adherent of the Jewish faith? To make the term do double duty is an introduction of nonsense. An Israeli who is not a religious Jew, is simply not a Jew at all. See Rabbi Yaakov Shapiro, who calls the Israeli claim on Jews an "identity theft", that is, a fraud. Their nationality is Israeli. Their ethnic backgrounds are extremely various. Apparently most are descendants of foreign converts to the faith. Many now are Europeans or Americans, among the settlers. A confusion has allowed the Israeli state to put a false claim on loyalty of people, from anywhere, whose heritage is that their ancestors practiced a Jewish faith. I said 'a', not 'the', because there are the usual sectarian divisions in Judaism, as in other religions. The political apartheid state wants to make its theft of Palestine seem 'holy', by association with Judaism. Sadly, it works among uneducated, also apparently soulless, "Christian" supporters of genocide. They lose sight of reality and goodness in their religious fantasies that involve the very Creator in mass murder and torture. We need to separate religious beliefs from political ideologies. A clean look at each is necessary.

If this were not so, Rabbi Shapiro would not have written a book, 'The Empty Wagon: Zionism's Journey from Identity Crisis to Identity Theft'. A key is that Judaism considers a person a "Jew" if the mother is Jewish. What this means, essentially for that person, is an obligation or responsibility that one is born to, according to the religion. That person is designated by G_d to practice Judaism, by that standard. It isn't political. It says that the person is called to fulfill the 613, I believe, commandments that apply to only Jews. Israel uses this to say, Hey...if you are born Jewish, then you have an automatic right to become an Israeli. It is a sick deception.

The more I learn about the Leadership mentality (including disdain for their "lesser" Citizens) and the importance they put on propaganda and image (over whatever the facts happen to be) - the orders for purposeful "friendly fire" may have more to do with preventing any of their soldiers from surrendering (and propaganda effect of images of same).
