After ww2 there were several locations being discussed to build a Jewish homeland. I think one was in the Baltic region, one was somewhere in Africa and then there's this. I always wondered why they chose Israel as we know it today. It's the ancestral homeland I guess. They wanted nothing to do with Europe. Fair point. Africa... Well. Every time Israel is in the news I wonder if they ever regretted settling there. Jewish people have been persecuted for centuries if not millenia all around the world. But it's only dawned on me now why having their own, independent nation is such a big deal for them.

I guess, in many ways, despite being a strong proponent of "capitalism", I have equally been a "left winger" who has a deep care for humanity, our planet and our universe even. In my younger years, I seriously considered making aliyah and trying to join a kibbutz in the south somewhere. I loved the ideals. I loved the history, the people, their care and thoughts. I loved their cleverness in agriculture and with life in general. I too thought it could maybe bring peace, that maybe if everyone had a "seat at the table" and an equitable outcome, maybe long lasting peace could be obtained. But now, I've grown a little older, and I'm starting to be of the opinion that some individuals are simply evil. There is simply no "saving" them. They will kill. They will murder. They'll commit every evil under the sun and we can't continually make excuses and "justify" their cruelty. And we can't sit in silence on it all. We have to make a stand, for love, for peace, for war, for hate of all that is evil. We have to be upright and a light in the darkness. Lots to question and not enough answers.

They chose not to listen to any intelligence warning them of this attack for a year. The US even had intelligence and so did Egypt.
