Any woman who hunts terrorist down one by one with pure passion of protecting her citizens like a loving grandmother who takes no shit from anyone is why Golda was a treasure for not just the people of Israel but for the world. A truly great lady.

Reading the wonderful autobiography of the great G Meir, "My Life'', brought me here. Along with the founding fathers of Modern day Israel, Chaim Weizman and Ben Gurion, Golda Meir could rightly be called the founding mother of the Jewish state. Fascinating! Nixon was very helpful to Israel, although he was personally anti-Jewish, and Golda was very grateful to him. They got along splendidly. Both of their legacies are complicated, Nixon’s with Watergate; and Israelis have mixed feelings about Golda. They certainly understand her role in the return of the Jews to their ancient homeland, but are justifiably astonished at her bumbling leadership during the Yom Kippur war (these observations come from my daughter and her family, who are Israeli).

Nixon had few shining moments domestically within the US but his skills lay in International relationships and ally building. I have read (I assume correctly) that while in the midst of Watergate, Nixon took a call in the middle of the night from Mrs. Meir telling him how essential it was to have immediate access to US military equipment. By making sure Kissinger and others followed through for Israel, Nixon provided an incalculable benefit to our most important middle east ally.
