When I was 13 I took over the job of cooking for the family and one night I made exactly this, only I added chickpeas and served it with homemade focaccia bread. The family were initially horrified that they had worked all day to come home to that… until they tried it! It’s a staple in our household now. Now, to find out that it is a legitimate dish beloved by many makes me feel a part of something somehow. Sorry for rambling! Thank you for giving me a big smile and a warm heart today (and beautiful job with the salad). Love from Atlanta

The first time I ever had this salad was in New York City about 20 years ago at the Comedy Cellar/Olive branch Restaurant... it was Awesome...

It’s actually a very old Persian salad but Israelis have been making too for years now

@@almasaravia3825 Hi Alma, i'm sorry but that's not true, the dish wasn't even possible til the late 19th century. It is very common across the Levant and parts of the Middle East, with different names and different variations. The Israeli salad was picked up from the Arab Palestinians, originating from Turkic and Azeri farmers.

I love olive oil, but a good olive oil can sometimes dominate and take away from the flavor of the fresh vegetables.

Shiraz is a city in iran so its iranian salad .....this is very old iranian salad .......IRAN

All this argument about Israeli/Shirazi - it's possible to have the same dish in different places. Especially when it's as simple as this. To me it's just a tomato and cucumber salad, which is a very normal thing to make in many parts of the world
