Who were the very first Christians? The Jews were! In the time of Jesus it was the ruling class and Pharisees that did not eant to give up their power and therefore denied who Christ was. Therefore their vision has been vailed. It's a similar situation to Gentiles hearing the gospel message and rejecting it. I hope this clarifies things for you and gives you food for thought and grace for others.
