The Persians and Jews have a long history of working together. Back in the early 7th century they were allies in war against the Byzantine occupation. My guess is that it was a mistake by the Persians to renege on their support for Jerusalem. It takes a long time to reestablish confidence between two independent and sovereign peoples when one has handed the other over to their common enemy.

We have a history with Iraq ("Bavel") going back 2500 years. Many of the Jewish philosophers through the ages were from the schools of Iraq. If there is a bridging between Israelis & Iraqis now, I think that's a really good thing.
