In Sweden you can have total height on the tower to 20m without permit, check Boverket 😎 , but in some locally communities it need permits:-( You need thicker cables 👍
@flyingtools
@flyingtools 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I know, but if you lay it down it has to be on your property, and not reaching your neighbour, as my do if so. Thanks for the info anyway. 😊 If I ever get thicker cable that will pay it self of in 5-8 years, I promise to change it out. When I have the data after 1-2 years I probably can calculate how much that cable can cost and if it is worth it. But I highly doubt about it.

Your voltage losses are in both the doubled up three fase cable, 150m of copper is a few kgs 50m of three fase cable split into 3 =150m. Not aloud to go higher ! And obstacles in the way causing turbulence, move obstacles bushes, trees, rocks

New subscriber here, greetings from Finland! I think this is the first time our regulations seem better at something than yours 😄 I think limiting mast height so low with pricing it so high is just silly, what is behind that? Just ordered a used I1500 with 6 blade rotor. Seems I have to check the slip ring for corrosion, drill a hole at the bottom for water to escape and reinforce the seals just in case (some come with some seals, some with none). Going to build my own 10-15m mast from maybe 5m pipes. New into wind generators, just some videos from Tube and odd literature about laws. Any tips to take into consideration and any general advice? Edit: just read about this in other comment: using just your own land for your build makes sense at least to me?

Hi again. I just realised you had an easy way of measuring the voltage drop on your cable... Since you have 4 conductors working as pairs, you can simply disconnect one of a pair at the house. Then put your AC rms voltmeter across the disconnected end and it's partner. Since the voltmeter is high impedance the loss on the test conductor will be negligible. So this will be like having one probe at the turbine and one at the house, directly measuring the voltage drop on the single conductor.
@flyingtools
@flyingtools 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thats a great idea! And if I take that conductor and connect it to the other pair up at the wind turbine I can measure the voltage drop as you describe but for both conductors and then of course as you say, measuring one conductor and I will have a more exact measure of my power loss after that. Thank you so much for that idea😃👍🏻

@@flyingtools Glad to be able to return something when you give so much info for free! I wonder what the waveform would look like... When feeding a battery through a rectifier, there is no current until the amplitude of the wave exceeds battery voltage. Most of the energy delivered by the turbine will probably be at the peaks only. The duty cycle is short so the current peaks will be high. Losses due to conductor resistance may be more than simple calculations might suggest. I recently got a cheap "instrustar" brand oscilloscope that connects to my laptop... Ideal for such measurements... because it runs on the computer battery, it is totally isolated.

I admire what you call "walking" :D I call it climbing. Very impressive, though. Do you also use that wind power to feed back to the grid, or is it somehow separated and only used for house?
@flyingtools
@flyingtools Жыл бұрын
Haha, yes climbing are probably more correct. This was connected to a 48v lithium battery, the same bank as my solar panels when I was of grid. But due to the high and fluctuations in energy prices I decided to change my inverters and battery to a hybrid system so I can sell power to the grid when my battery is full. So sadly I sold the turbine together with my 48v battery bank. Thank you so much for your comment ☺️

I am thinking about putting a smaller battery next to my istabreeze i2000 turbine, then parallel dc cables to my main battery in the house. Do you think this will smooth out the peaks and troughs of wind power, and enable me to use less copper?
@flyingtools
@flyingtools Жыл бұрын
Yes that will definitely smooth out your power spikes. But it will also be some powerloss when doing so. Not sure how much but a very interesting thought. Regards the copper thickness, you probably can go down in size.

When you stated in the video, "I can turn it up higher" might you mean that you can move the turbine rotor on a mast to a higher elevation to avoid the gusty winds? When you state in your reply to Rickard Bjorling, "if you lay it down it has to be on your property, and not reaching your neighbour, as my do if so ", might you mean that it has to be installed on your own property to enjoy a tower height of 20m maximum as Rickard Bjorling suggested? We have no wind turbine regulations for off-grid installs here in Canada, so I was curious if these rules in Sweden are for any type of wind turbine (on or off grid).
@flyingtools
@flyingtools 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I mention that I could mount it higher, sorry, my English. The tower is installed on my property but only 5 m from my neighbour and due to the Swedish regulation I cannot build it higher than 5 m. Off or on grid doesn’t matter.

That's a clear video on voltage loss, the ista breeze controller isnt mppt then? Open circuit voltage of that turbine would be well up in 100v? That would really help the losses.
@flyingtools
@flyingtools 2 жыл бұрын
Yes that hade helped a lot, but where I am located the winds are mostly pretty mild so my turbine struggles to even get up to 48 V, I actually went from five blades to three just to se if the turbine could reach higher rpm and I think that it helped some. I have also installed a step up voltage controller for those low wind days so I can collect the watt hours below battery voltage. But of course when the wind is strong I have to raise the voltage again, if not doing so the power loss will be enormous. Istapower is not an mppt controller. Only bake controll.
