Sultanahmet Square is the main square of Istanbul, located in the historical center of the city in the Sultanahmet neighborhood of Fatih district.
The square consists of two parts: the square between Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque and the Hippodrome square itself,
Sultanahmet (Turkish Sultanahmet) is a district in the old part of Istanbul, located in the European part of the city on the cape between the Golden Horn Bay, the Bosphorus Strait and the Sea of Marmara. The name of the district comes from the Sultanahmet Mosque of the same name, known to tourists as the Blue Mosque, located in the center of the district.
The area represents the historical center of the city, the ancient acropolis and the first hill of the Second Rome. In 1985, the historical part of the area was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
In the area there are such architectural monuments as Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Basilica Cistern, etc.
