Your friends story about going to the concert, I feel like its the both of them not communicating. She didn't feel she needed to inform him and he didn't care to ask her about her day or night or whatever. Since they have made it a habit to not need to tell each other things, weather the things are big or small, that's just what happened. It's on the both of them to make effort in communicating. Asking how and what you did in your day is part of communicating.
