Ever since ur dad appeared in ur video trips with you til now, you can see how much better and how much he has learnt 4wding. In the early days he was far less controlled than he is now. Props to him for admitting on camera that he is still learning and is enjoying learning and has a way to go. Some people on youtube think they know everything. Im so suprised he has not done a cv yet. Top video answered a few queries for sure, thats a really well set up rig. Once a locker is in it he will be unstopable.

Seen a few of your videos, in a random pattern, I visited Fraser 30 years ago and started watching your Horror trip there. What a blast! Then saw your dads truck... and What.. thats a MUX... !!! I have one on order, with only 4 to 8 months more to wait. Then down the youtube rabbit hole, I found this one. Would love to be traveling like that with my dad but he's a bit to old now. Subscribed now and I have a huge backlog of videos to watch. Will be strange watching your journeys with your young son and dad.. and seeing them grow as I learn about 4x4'ing. Hoping your content continues, brings some customers to your supporters, and allows you to trial new products and places while educating and entertaining!. (apologies for the long comment!)

We have an MUX as well. It's been good for us, almost at 100,000km, mostly road driving. Very reliable. Good for a large family too, they're bigger on the inside than you'd think. The Isuzu 4JJ1 motor is a winner - could do with a little extra grunt for towing but otherwise fine. Downside to the vehicle, OEM suspension terrible, big droop with even a light load. Traction control non-existent, I don't know what Graham Cahill is talking about. Maybe auto's are different. Should have come with a rear locker at least. Good to see the new models now have that. I'd like to put a 'Lokka' brand auto locker in the front, the majority of the time it's a front wheel lifting first. We have SCFabworks sliders too, they're great. XROX bar, I've bent that! Bilstein shock with King springs. Rhino roof racks with ROLA platform, as good as the Rhino platform I reckon. If I had the money for next mods - front locker, engine tune, rear locker.
@garrygraham7901
@garrygraham7901 4 жыл бұрын
I looked into the front lokka. Several experts warned me off them coz you have no control over when they engage or disengage. There are some horror stories with them not disengaging when steering is needed.
@einfelder8262
@einfelder8262 4 жыл бұрын
@@garrygraham7901 Those stories are bullshit - autolocker never actually disengages, but allows the wheels to slip when necessary. I've had an autolocker in the front of my Patrol since new (9 years) and I never have trouble steering. You should study up on them and learn how they actually work, and don't listen to "experts" who do not know how they work. The autolocker, in my opinion, is best with manual hubs in a 4WD with transfer case. Some IFS 4WD (eg Ranger) the front diff is always engaged and turns the front tailshaft always, even when in 2WD. I imagine a LOKKA in there would not be too nice, but can't say for sure. My Jackaroo had TOD transfer case with vacuum slider yoke on the front axle, so in 2WD the left front was disconnected but the right front axle was not, but the front tailshaft was not always turning as in the Ranger. A LOKKA in the Jackaroo would have engaged the front tailshaft always but because of the slider yoke on the left side steering would not be affected in 2WD. So careful study of what 4WD system is on your vehicle is required before electing to use the cheap LOKKA or the expensive TJM locker. 90% of "experts" don't know shit.

We have a 2018 MU-X. We’re going to add a front auto locker. reasons: being IFS the front is most likely to lift, front is best place to get traction due to weight, spinning front wheels is a good way to snap things, it will auto unlock on corners so we always have good steering, front is directional - so better in mud etc than the back, and finally: we really don’t like to get stuck 🙂.

Thanks for showing us around. Great to see a mux driving the tracks. I drove my dmax without a locker until it was out of warranty. Put a auto lockka in the front with a diff drop. I have not told anyone, and have a great time keeping up with the bigger rigs. Wombat holes were killing my mojo of road. Elocker on wishlist for rear one of these day's.

@@MrFastFarmer yeah, added manual hubs as well. It was a big weekend. I have heard about the slight disengage, but if ya stuck enough to back up, half a wheel revolution properly not the biggest concern. I guess I will see.

I had a Dmax and yes the TC is next to useless , I know Graham Cahill raves about the TC but I think its a case of don't bite the hand that feeds you . I had 2 eLockers in mine they make a huge difference no need to tackle things at speed or spin wheels most of the time . I broke a couple of CV's very easily , I'm surprised you haven't done any . Keep a eye on the inner guards for any sign of cracking , believe me its a thing , its a very expensive fix and nothing stopping it from happening again .

@@volcanic5187 eLockers were fitted at the time but not locked , lockers will not break CV's if you know how to use them , they will save CV"s . Do you think lockers are necessary on some of the legendary outback trails like the Canning or Gibb? For some seriously challenging terrain like those shown in this video I could understand the need for lockers, but with a few exceptions here and there, places like the Canning and Gibb aren't that extreme and seem to beat up vehicles more from the relentless road conditions that rattle vehicles to pieces and tear up the tires.

Gday Tyler, Hey I was wondering if you could help me...😃 wondering where the power for your old man's diff lock switch is sourced from, ie from somewhere when ignition is on or from 4x4 selector etc so the diff lock can be only activated once in 4L. I'm just concerned with having the button accidentally pressed when shouldn't, or kids playing and pressing buttons then having the wife go tearing up the highway and blowing the diff out... 😅 Cheers P.s your vids are the bloody best hey! Phil McAvity you can only increase diameter by about 5% over standard. Basically you can go up to 10mm wider with an extra 5 on the profile, eg 275 x 75 on a 16 inch rim. But then you have check your standard rim width for the wider tyre. Staying with 265 is legal and sensible without replacing rims.

I think Isuzu should fix the traction control.. it's BS and you have endless videos of it not working... so not sure why you are quiet on it. Lockers on the Isuzu are a big issue. Totally agree with you comments about lockers - I once had dual arb lockers on a hilux, and several times it put me in situations I shouldn't have been in, and wouldn't have been in without them.
@Wdeane1957
@Wdeane1957 4 жыл бұрын
You're not wrong. I have a 2018 MU-X and the traction control off road is useless. Several years ago I had a 2001 Toyota Prado and with the 20 year old technology of factory LSD and traction control it was awesome off road. With my MU-X I've now fitted a rear ARB air locker to enable me to go to the same places I could in the old Toyota. I do like the newer engines and auto but let down by lack of either LSD or diff lock.
@MrFastFarmer
@MrFastFarmer 4 жыл бұрын
@@Wdeane1957 We must have come from the same pod. I also had a prado 2001 which I supercharged and yes it had traction control and yes it was much much better than the Isuzi. It all so had a lsd in the rear (but I trashed 2 of those diffs). It just shows how much BS we live in when a car 17 years later performs worse. The 2020 dmax now has rear diff lock.
