A death mask in the real world is usually made by taking a plaster cast of the recently deceased person’s face so, yeah.

@@KalicoKal I can definitely see the Blood Angels taking a death mask in the classic sense first, preserving that original plaster death mask as a Chapter relic, using it to make a mold, then using that mold as a base to sculpt Sanginius' visage from an expression of defeat or peace in death to an expression of defiance and cold fury. Then you take that sculpt and cast it in metal to make the final death mask worn by the Chapter Master. Because real life death masks are not worn by people or even made to be worn. They're a plaster image of the deceased's face as they were shortly after death, an image of them in their final moments meant to be kept as a memento.

Imagine that one goofy oil pastel drawing at sanguineous halls. Them Dante said "dad like that one scribe who copied an art of brother pilous. So dad felt awe and asked the scribe to finish the drawing and place it besides pilous paintings, pilous was sad when that little fella died. We honor that painting on pilous statue beside the scribes. Those two goofballs are meant to stuck together like silly peas. We honor brother pilous sacrifices but putting a exact replica of the scribes drawings ok his monument"

The Blood Angels' and the Salamanders' craft time makes a little more sense when you remember that every Astartes is a traumatized boy on the body of an afult monster, they're all war criminals, and their earliest memory is having to Cain the other village boys before being sliced open with no anesthetic and stuffed to the gills with extra organs. When the black rage popped up the blood angels entire legion go so angry and violent you had world eaters and khorn demons running away in fear. They also gain a fraction of the primarchs strength they were able to tear apart giant nids with no weapons or power armor. Also chaos multiple times offered to kill Horus and his entire legion if only sanguinious’s would take his place.

The process of becoming a blood angel is pretty well documented. Dante's book, you see everything from the trials all the way to him becoming chapter master. They just inherit the features of Sanguinous in the same way the ultramarines inherent the features of guilimen.

For those curious about the levels of radiation in the Jamaican spa water, here are some conversions for 16 nanocuries per liter. 1 nanocurie = 37 atomic disintegrations per SECOND. The standard unit we use for measuring radiological contaminated items or materials in the US is Disintegrations per MINUTE. So, 1 nanocurie = 2220 DPM and 16 nanocuries per liter = 35520 DPM per liter of water volume. That equals out to about 0.5 mREM per hour PER LITER. So 20 minutes in a tub with 200 liters in it? At a dose rate of 100 mREM per hour, that's only 33 mREM. Which is about as much dose as you'd get from a single X-Ray photo of your chest. Or as much dose as you'd get hanging out near the edge of a Reactor Pool for a shift in a nuclear power plant (its not that much, promise)

One of their successor chapters, The Blooddrinkers, got their name when one recieved a vision from a Daemon who disguised himself as Sanguinius. It told them that satiating their thirst for blood would reduce their chances of succombing to The Black Rage. This information saved their chapter. But now and again a Daemon comes forth and tempts them with greater power. It is believed if even 1 Brother falls, it will spell doom for the rest of the Chapter.

Isander taking about blood angles being hot reminds me of this funny scene in the emperor's gift. Hyperion a grey knight is in the showers with an inquisitor and her retinue. And while Hyperion is doing his thing, a sister of battle points to him, blushing and says "your ascension to knighthood was a great shame."😂 I'd like to imagine later that night she was furiously flicking the bean to Hyperion's chisled, genewrought form.😂

Something important to note about when Sanginious fought Horus was that he had just finished destroying an entire army of demons along with the bloodthirster that had broken both of his legs earlier in his life. After days of fighting almost singlehanded against chaos he then went and fought Horus who was supercharged by all 4 chaos gods. If he was fresh he stood a chance of defeating Horus.

The theory of an exhausted Sanguinious succumbing to his black rage and finishing off Horus, only to have the Emperor walk in and having to cull an enraged Sanguinious (his favorite son) who now saw his Father as Horus, is a more fitting and tragic ending.

The Salamanders are the only other Legion that matches this kind of energy. Sangunius and Vulcan more than any other Primarch, wanted their Legion to be actual people. Not just warriors or weapons. The Salamanders are the only Legion that actually remains being actual people.

I love that he also got vengeance on Ka'Bandha and beat him before. Then after suffering grievous wounds from fighting the demon, he bodies Angron and effectively "kills" him( thanks Lorgar) before finally going to fight a chaos juiced Horus knowing he will die there.

One fun thing about the Blood Angels is that they had a successor chapter named the Angels Resplendent who later became the Angels Penitent. What's interesting about the Angels Penitent is that they completely shun things that Sanguinius inspired the legion to take up (art, music, etc). I don't know what book this was from but I think it was a small series a person on KZfaq narrated

It's from peter fehevari's dark coil series. Easily my favorite 40k author, the angels penitent/resplendent feature in several of his stories. I highly recommend all of his books they are the best imo.

You know, hearing how sanguinius taught the revenants to control their angry... reminds me a LOT of how i deal with my own rage. The rage doesn't go away. You cant contain it. You have to direct it. Thia is my favorite Legion, because they are a great story and show of how much good influencw matters. Sanguinius saved them by ahowing them how to be better and they will do their damnedest to make Angel Dad proud of them. Even their Successor chapters all keep in touch. The former Legion isn't just a collection of Sanguinius and Sons. Its a legit family fighting for the values of their beloved Father and the Empire he died for.

I would LOVE a Heroes of the Imperium ep but also named Necrons are just SO COOL and they need more attention~ Also, I'm curious cause I came across a discussion about Zahndrekh and Obyron a while ago that is pretty interesting if anyone else hasn't come across it: Besides Zahndrekh calling Obyron his "better half" (often a term for a spouse) apparently in Severed, it’s mentioned that Doahht is in the m'wt region of space. And in Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs the mwt glyph is "phallic representing" as well as used for the term "husband" along with some other terms of a similar nature. So basically in Severed, two he/him robots talk about their love for each other and win in the end *due* to their love/devotion to each other, with the climax of the story in a cave in the "husband" sector of space? Now either that's some *serious* research to give us low-key gay robots or that is a coincidence of the millenium ❤
