Even though the book was over 1100 pages it still felt like it went by pretty quick for me. The length I thought was needed because I think the backstory parts were very good and needed.

I read this book for three weeks straight when I was 15. Everyone remembers my grade ten year as me just walking around the entire school with Stephen King's IT with me everywhere I went. It took me three weeks to read it because I was reading this book every chance I got. (I remember getting my book taken from me in my religion class and I managed to get it back at the end of class.) Anyways, I had the same thougts as you. It was a bit too long and felt liked it dragged at parts, and I found myself eager to just read the bits with them as kids every time I was stuck in the parts with them as adults. I really loved the new movie because it was entirely what I loved about the book - the kids. I hope they put a lot of flashbacks in the sequel because those child actors made that movie fall in my top 10

Julia Sapphire this is kinda late but I got the new book “The Institute” and I don’t let nobody touch it cause it’s such a good novel, it’s one of my first Stephen king books and I carry around in school and ready it whenever I want (I’m in 9th grade btw) and when I carry the book people give me these looks and I don’t know why but his books just make me imagine every word he says, he’s probably the best novel, I might get IT but I’m wondering if there’s a hardcover, do you think there’s a hardcover, if not it’s good

I first read IT the year the miniseries came out (1990) but was too young to grasp all the information contained within. Last year (2021) I splurged on the Audible version and listened while reading it again. Steven Weber does a magnificent performance, in my opinion, of narration, character voices, and accents throughout the novel. I realize why the book has become a modern classic for my generation. Both for fans of Stephen King, The Dark Tower, and fiction in general. I’ve heard it referred to as Stephen King’s Moby Dick, but more successful sales-wise when it first came out.

I have read this for nearly all day now and I'm already on page 298 and so far is one of the best books I have ever read the characters are amazing alot of description I love the style of his writing. The topics in this book I found was definitely fear and probably some action as well. This book is so good I'm going to get if it bleeds his new book for my birthday and it already sounds amazing. I watched a video where Stephen king reads if it bleeds and it was so descriptive definitely the best story teller and writer ever in our existence!

This book is definitely one of my favorites. It’s not just a “scary book” like a lot of people who haven’t read it seem to think it is. There’s so many different emotions and themes that go into it. I think it’s true, gritty American literature of the 20th Century and will be a classic for years (possibly hundreds of them). I do agree that it could’ve been cut down a little (maybe two or three hundred pages), but it’s still a five star book for me. I’m lucky enough to own quite a few different editions of It. The first edition hardcover, the first mass market, the original movie series tie-in mass market, the 25th anniversary edition hardcover, the Pocket Books mass market edition, the white hardcover (like the one you have, just hardcover), and the trade paperback 2017 movie tie-in edition. When it’s a favorite, you gotta have a lot. That’s my motto, anyway. Great review!

@KJenYT
@KJenYT 6 жыл бұрын
Spooky Carrie I’m going to guess you don’t want to shell out a ridiculous amount of money for the 25th anniversary edition (which is by far the most beautiful, and lavish edition out there). If the person you’re buying it for is a huge fan and collector, definitely go for the white hardcover that was just recently re-released. If they are just a casual fan/casual reader, either the Pocket Books mass market edition (if you’re going mass market, that’s the one to go with), or one of the trade paperbacks (movie tie in, or the one displayed in Julia’s review). Just my recommendations, though. Happy gifting!

There was also a reference, that was easy to miss, to The Dead Zone where Bev claims daring the adult-losers' reunion that she heard of a crazy policeman from Castle Rock who killed a bunch girls, she was referring to Frank Dodd but didn't say his name, that's why it was easy to miss the reference.

My version is from 1986. It has a wonderful cover of the paper boat going into the gutter as well as a picture of Stephen King playing the guitar on the inside back cover. Also, the original price was $4.95

I found a book in my Junior High (middle school to you whippersnappers) library in 1978 called "Salem's Lot" and I was hooked on Stephen King for the next 40 years. I waited 30 years for him to finish "The Dark Tower". Sadly, I haven't read much of his new stuff because he can't seem to keep politics out of it. Don't know if you've read "The Stand" yet, but it is, by far, the best of the best. It is an amazing book. Even the mini-series that they made of it wasn't too bad.

Will you do a discussion video of IT as well? I feel like there are a few flaws in the book that are worth discussing as well. By and large though I agree with your review and rating. I have the same edition you do (cover buy) but the cover I read initially was kind of this ugly blue so I got rid of it after I read it.

I've been working on this book for years. Kindle Edition, bought it just before the 2017 It: Chapter One came out (the cover updates from time to time for the latest movie tie-in)... I agree, the pacing and the length is intense! I love Mr. Mercedes, I came to it rediscovering Stephen King after reading Doctor Sleep, which I saw at my local Costco store (read Doctor Sleep digital version than the excerpt of Mr. Mercedes and fell in love). I was like "Stephen King's first hard-boiled detective novel!" this is the coolest, where does it come from? Then you see some of its influences in the law enforcement characters when you read IT.
