To me the actor who played Eddie was just as fantastic as Hader was. In fact, their chemistry on screen carried this film. One thing I loved was how as their memories returned through the film, Richie would continue to make fun of Pennywise, his sayings, his dance, it was hilarious. And as for bound by his form: The choking worked b/c the form he took was a human leper, a human can be choked out. That's how Eddie was able to do it.

Oh man James Ransone was absolutely wonderful along with Bill Hader. Their chemistry was so good it was a pity they didn't have more scenes together which again would have just been in favor of the ending. But yeah. They were the funniest characters, but got the most gutwrenching endings so it was truly hard to watch the end.

James McAvoy and Bill Hader definitely shined in this movie but I gotta say James Ransone as adult Eddie was PERFECT. He got Eddie's fears and mannerisms down so WELL. I also loved the hinted affection between Richie and Eddie, which made the ending hurt even more. The deaging they did on some of the kids was crazy obvious and took me out a couple of times. Overall the movie was great and I loved every minute of it

I can't remember the last time i was so heartbroken over a character death in a horror movie since Eddie. It helps that the characters are all so likeable and well developed instead of a typical group of horror protagonists that get killed off one by one, and seeing their reaction to Eddie getting stabbed was so heartbreaking. Loved this movie.

I feel like James Ransone as adult Eddie deserve more recognition for this movie. I had never heard of him before so he was new to me, but wow. Very funny and wonderful chemistry with the others. Not to mention the similiarities between him and young Eddie is spot on. He (and Bill) makes the ending just... ouch.

James Mcavoy is an amazing actor. A lot more humor than I expected. Really enjoyed the whole movie, enjoyed the small bit of lore we got. I don't know how they managed to create tension so well when we had just laughed at a joke. Skarsgaard killed it as Pennywise

Bill Hader & James McAvoy's performances are two of the best acting performances I've seen in a horror movie (along with Bill Skarsgard, who steals the show once again as Pennywise). Plus, the film stayed very faithful to the book (while also skipping over/ignoring certain aspects of the adult half that dragged on), while also adding stuff that wasn't in the book that was incredible (such as the girl under the bleacher, and the kid in the house of mirrors). Overall, I'd give it a 8.5/10. It's my favorite horror movie of the year, and along with Chapter 1, would likely be in my top 10 favorite horror movies of all-time list.

About the "he's bound by his shape but he's a shapeshifter" discussion at 22:45 : in the book the concept is more that he automatically appears in the shape each of the kids are afraid of and his appearance is not so much his own doing I think. That's why - when Richie and Bill go into the Neibolt house alone - Richie sees a werewolf while Bill sees the clown. IT is simultaneously both. The first time the kids manage to hurt IT is because, before the rest of the kids see him, Richie screams out "It's the werewolf!" and that makes all the others see him as a werewolf, too. They agree on a shape, and that's why the silver slug they made is able to hurt him. I know this concept is not airtight as IT does seem to have some control over his appearance, but that's what's meant by the boundaries of its shape I think. I also think the puppy was just a projection of IT, and killing it probably wouldn't have done much harm to IT

Don't get me wrong James McAvoy was great like he always is and Bill Hader definitely shined in this movie but I gotta mention James Ransone too, who was amazing as Eddie, he had Eddie down to a tea and it really was like watching grown up Eddie. Loved his and Richie's banter and scenes. Just Like in Chapter 1. I love all the losers and after Chapter 2 still do but Eddie and Richie where my favs from Chapter one and still are after chapter 2.

what it means by "he is bound by the form he takes" is that if he takes the form of a human, he is as powerful as a human. thats why he became a giant monster in the end. so the made him believe he was small and weak by belittling him. Because he believed he was small and weak he took the shape of something small and weak. His form dictates his power and his power dictates his form.
@ashlmtl
@ashlmtl 5 жыл бұрын
I always thought the clown was not to scare people but to lure kids in. Like he saw circuses and he saw kids going to see clowns and being really excited and figured he could take that form to get them to come closer after he's maybe scared them with forms more specific to each kid. Which is a reason I loved Richie's fears because his fear never really was clowns. His fear in the first movie was going missing and nobody noticing or caring and then you find out in the second movie his fear of being outed, both of which are fairly difficult to manifest (But i loved the closet behind the very scary door). They are just generally fears of abandonment, loneliness and rejection, which is why Pennywise always showed up as himself. Pennywise even said in the first movie, 'Beep Beep Richie' which is in reference to his jokes and his sense of humour and how that is a defense mechanism to keep people at arms length because if people dont get close then it doesn't hurt as bad when they leave. Richie is probably the best character in the movies for these reasons. anyway pennywise is cancelled bc he's a homophobe

I'm so glad you brought up the walking in the street thing!!!! it bugged me literally throughout the whole movie and you're the first other person I've seen notice it lmao. I also thought the romance between Beverly and Ben was a bit lacking, but they do have a lot more chemistry in the first movie, so maybe they just expected that to carry over??? idk. I'm also glad you talked about how well Richie's feelings for Eddie were played because I've seen so many reviews where they just skip over it and it's a darn shame, because Hader's acting in those scenes are phenomenal. All of the cast is so great, Mcavoy and Ransone in particular, and I also made the observation about Ben's eyes. I was dubious about his casting choice but then I saw his eyes and I was like "oh yeah, that's Ben", there's just something about them that's totally the same. anyway, this comment is already too long but good review guys lol.

9:05 I think there was a Pennywise the clown in Derry prior to IT taking on his now iconic form. I think Mr’s Kersh and Robert Bob Grey were actual citizens of Derry. I don’t think IT can create a form without basing it on something (whether it’s someone’s fear or the citizens of Derry).

what pennywise does is bringing out the fears and memories....he feeds on them. reflections in their heads that scare them...the panic in the mirror room was bill alone thinking of what could happen and it gets so strong for him that it materialises it...but we cant see thoughts...so the story teller has to describe or even materialise it to the viewer....description of a breakdown of fear living in each of us...but come to life to a degree....you gotta express it in order to know what it looks like and then find the right containment for it. its like goin crazy and someone records the nightmare you're goin through and uses it to taunt you...its not mindcontrol...its forcing the things that are inside you...i mean you're not under a spell as hypnotised but its transcended inbetween and you still are in control if you are strong enough and change it...like a lucid dream...thats why nightmare on elm street 5 was referenced.....the dream warriors

Georgie said, "You lied, I died!", that part is almost from the first one when Georgie said, "You'll float too!". The furtinue cookies. Mortal Kombat and Rampage cameo. Andy Muschiette cameo. i think the real people threatening somene rather than just own fears seeming to be real is more scary than a fictional clown....if you dont step up against a real bowers he will kill you. against the clown you can still say your'e not afraid...tell that to a real person who's gona stab you. always in horror movies ...kids and old women are the scariest me think....i mean i fear people more than specialeffects creatures in movies

You have to be kidding if you honestly didn't notice the CGI used on the kids. It got to be so hard not to notice. Especially when they altered their voices to sound like in the first. Definitely took away from the film.

Your right, when it’s in a horror movie. Get stabbed in the face, better make a joke about it.

Neo Nanogerm I can see your point of view though. While I liked the comedy I do have to agree that it could have been used elsewhere and it did lower the horror of some scenes.

@@Nanogerm Comedy doesn't belong in a horror movie? Don't ever watch The Evil Dead series, please.
