I think many people are missing what she is doing here. She's not just changing her singing style, she's showing what a great musician she is. Playing jazz is like immersing yourself in the richest most fertile soil of musicianship there is. And she's got the chops along with her amazing voice.
@mspeter97
@mspeter97 4 жыл бұрын
This kind of jazz is one of the hardest style of music you can practice IMO. It's really not just a case of changing your style of something, you need to train hard to get on THAT level
@ImNotLuthien
@ImNotLuthien 7 ай бұрын
You couldn´t be more wrong. First of all she´s not playing shit. The arragement was like a pretty basic form of actual jazz, I´m assuming that was because she clearly cannot improvise or actually got that swing. Her voice here is very straight forward. No playing scales, no playing with the harmony, its an insult to Ella Fitzgerald. And the saddest thing of this, the video is edited lmao.. which means she couldn´t even do this in one take. I really don´t know why choosing such a good yet hard to perform song. Maybe because her fanbase don´t know shit about jazz and they would just look at her like a really talented artist. And Tony, what can I say about him, he´s amazing but this is not his style at all. Just a poor decision. You should watch Ella singing this with Duke Ellington band. They way she sings those "Do what" is so powerful, expressive and playful.

I get that it's Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, but give some credit to the other musicians that did this as well, especially while they're being featured! All we see were the two screwing around at the mics; which is fine, if NOTHING ELSE IS HAPPENING. Who are those musicians? Why are they not allowed face time for their contributions to this? Vevo REALLY needs to learn how to respect EVERYONE involved in the music making process, not just the pretty faces.

+Samuel Fister The guys on this tune are Tony's pals from the halls of jazz greatness. Don't know their names, but I should. And I agree with you completely that all the musicians should get noticed and acknowledged. Back in the day (I'm old) when there were album covers, there were listings of who the musicians were in the band. On jazz stations, at least some I listen to, and I think as a rule, the host will tell you about the session and who is playing on it. BTW, watch The Wrecking Crew if you want to find out about the real musicians behind so much music over the last 50 years it will blow your mind. Carol Kaye. Remember that name.

+Coveskipper I know what I'M doing after work today! :D I used to host a jazz show at my college radio station and I always made it a point to recognize everyone on the recordings. I understand we live in a "solo megastar" age, and I've played my fair share of shows where I get zero recognition (but still got a paycheck, so be grateful for that, right?), but it still feels off when I hear a musician playing in a jazz tune and don't get a chance to know who it is. That could have been Sonny Rollins for all I know.

Just saw some comments about how Gaga needs to stop singing jazz and that she needs to go back to pop cause they don't like jazz. I'm 18 years old and to be honest I was never really listening jazz that much but when I heard Cheek To Cheek I really fell in love with this type of music. This album is amazing and shows Gaga's amazing vocals and shows that she can sing anything she wants and not only pop music. That's true talent. Not every pop singer can sing jazz. You are not a true little monster if you are saying how she needs to stop making this 'shit'. I don't say you need to love it but you shoud at least support what she is doing. She didn't forgett about pop music cause she is already working on her next pop album but CTC was a nice touch in her career especially cause it's with a legend Tony Bennett. So stop being bitchy about this and enjoy this amazing music and wait for the Grammys 2015 ;)

Wooow, what an amazingly fast, pure, sharp and perfectly pitched voice Lady G has - better than that, it is a real vocal instrument. It's like the sweetest blend of plucked steel strings and the best tone production and control on brass. Very nice vibrato too. Talk about flexibility and dexterity, the Lady has it. Where did she get all that from...not the Macy's catalogue! Such attack on each note. One of the most perfect jazz voices I've heard. Love, andrea

this is truly stunning, I love jazz. People my age really don't have an original taste of music,and it saddens me. How on earth could you hate on this? If you want crappy pop music,take a look at Katy Perry's channel. Open your eyes and look at all those *chickens* different genres of music. Ugh.

I'm so glad she's getting to sing classically now. It's actually how she started, but no one liked her until her pop stuff. I like her pop stuff, but I always wanted to hear more of her pure voice and now she's big enough to do it all. Go, Gaga!
