this came to me in a dream- specifically i needed the visual of mikage turning around in his chair all serious while "IM NOT A PSYCHIATRIST" plays in the background... and it kinda spiraled from there. of course, mindless self indulgence being mindless self indulgence, the song has a depressing ass ending, which just does not jive with my own personal reading of utena as a story about hope, breaking cycles, etc... so just to be clear, the only thing getting worse here is a life which accepts patriarchal systems of oppression... and you know what they say... you have no choice but to revolutionize the world

this is like the third(?) time i've watched this and i've only just now realized it goes through each arc sequentially (although it understandably skips the meat of the akiopocalypse arc to get to the finale). a literally tracing of the way It Gets Worse

yes!!!! i'm so happy you picked up on that, i wanted to show how the world was unraveling around them, literally Getting Worse, just to highlight the feeling i get rewatching utena- watching in horror as it all goes downhill....

Dudeee this is awesome! No other show does such a strong, slow building descent into madness quite like RGU. You captured the feeling of rewatching this show with the knowledge of the first time perfectly. Also this is just a certified banger of a song. “You’re going down the road, the same one that we have“ with that shot of Utena and Anthy in their matching bride dresses with Dios? Hits hard.

thank you!!! this is so vindicating lol. working on this initially i felt crazy like "does this even make sense is anyone gonna get it" so i'm very glad people have responded so positively!!! and yeah the black rose arc's tendency to repeat/reuse frames makes for some really fun editing possibilities that the utena amv community has taken full advantage of! god i love this show

thank you! the concept was sitting in my head for a while, certain scenes lined up where i thought they'd be, but in making the amv i ended up finding even more connections than i'd originally anticipated! utena, man... what a show

top 3 favorite anime + top 5 MSI tracks of all time = you are a god! at the point where you incorporated all of the brainwashed/gaslit victims each descending during their interviews from the Black Rose Saga, I became speechless and did not breathe or blink for the remainder of the song. OUTSTANDING JOB! There has never been enough love in the world for this anime, it was so ahead of its time & I feel like by the time the world was ready for it's themes, younger generations dont give it a chance as a lot of them prefer the look of a more polished digital animation style instead of cult classic series that used cell animation or actual film, etc. If only they knew

That was an awesome song choice, worked very well and of course great editing. Thank you for the happy ending. I just know they found each other one day.
