The buildup into the peak and then sheer hose following is the very definition of Phish.

13:29 we were awash in an absolute avalanche of glow sticks and then the boys melted all of our faces off. I don't remember a ton of actual moments during IT except 46 Days and of course, the most amazing Ghost ever played.

Thinking back to being in that glowstick war still makes me h0rny.. I mean, wistful! It makes me wistful! For real though, one of the best moments of my life.

The build up to the pure magic that happens at the 12 min mark is mind blowing. First time i heard this ghost i caught myself dancing around my house uncontrollably. I love jam music 😃

Fishman, as usual, is the true MVP here in this jam. I can't think of another drummer who just drives a steady rhythm--with slight variations, of course--for close to twenty minutes like this at the beginning of the jam, allowing for the jam to breathe and transform as it trudges along ceaselessly. Mike, Trey, and Page can take full advantage of this constant foundation, as they do when Fishman establishes another great driving rhythm for the "second jam" more type II section of the jam (the last ten minutes, basically). An incredible drummer by every measure and, in a lot of ways, Phish's secret weapon and unsung hero.

2003-2004 are amongst their best years musically ever Idc what anyone says. Hell even Coventry has some sick jams mixed In there. 2.0 doesn't get the love it deserves.

Agreed

I, too, am a fan of 2.0. At the time, I didn't appreciate it as much as I do looking back on it now.

That Coventry melt is god like. Other than the composed section, it's just incredible. Top 5 melts most definitely.
@fivespeed42Ай бұрын
Coventry? That's laughable, but hey, we all enjoy different things. For me, 97-99 is the sweet spot With that said, I can barely even listen to current phish. I haven't been to a show in years, but there's still ppl going and enjoying it

I still think about that mass of orange glowsticks..back when glowsticks weren't straws and you actually felt them when they clunked you in the noggin.

@@larryinfl80 lmao yup can confirm... was nearly decapitated by an orange glowstick at IT... it was great i went to it and i can enjoy meself getting beaned in the dome phish phorever!

All I know is it was, for a fact, the biggest glow stick war I ever witnessed, and I was seeing shows starting in 93 and doing tours late nineties into early 2000s. That's a lot of glow stick wars, and none of em matched up. kangfirmed I'm willing to bet there still hasn't been another like it to this day (not into current phish)

Right up there with Denver 97 and Prague 98 IMO
@zg11067 жыл бұрын
Steven Levy agreed.... '03 doesn't get enough love imo.... I mean t consider this one of the bes years for jams IMO i mean yea some of it is sloppy on the compositions but there are so many type II monsters from 03... its by far the most unique and its really the first time 20+ min jams started popping up pretty regularly. IT jams are fucking insane, another monster show from this year was in Utah i believe... the show with like the 30 min Mr. Completely.
@jgfunk5 жыл бұрын
The IT Pebbles and Marbles jam was fantastic too. IT was great...wrongly overshadowed by previous shows there

So somewhere between 2nd and 4th place behind the Atlanta Ghost basically?
@jonathanburre45894 жыл бұрын
the best. still in their prime and ideas were so cohesive and beautiful. trey seems very focused. i feel like this was the peak. seeing them live now is so different

how did you feel about 2021?
@jburre Жыл бұрын
wasn’t quite this. and this isn’t quite what 95 was. not better or worse, just different
@fivespeed42Ай бұрын
Definitely not in their prime. They were already well into their decline, imo of course. As for IT, as a whole, the music was just meh. This Ghost was one of two highlights. The massive all-time greatest glowstick war being the other ones

The 13:30 mark is the epitome of tension and release jamming that Phish was so great at back in the day.
@TeamGlasshole2 жыл бұрын
I recommend listening from the 12:00 mark to properly demonstrate this, 12:30 when Trey gets into that higher Octave, and 12:45 starts the repetitive groove that leads to the release, oh baby thats good
