It happened. Riding down the expressway, and my saddlebag came off. It slid across the expressway into the median. I had the standard ¼ turn bolts that held my saddlebag in place. I got home, and I wanted to replace the ¼ turn bolts with something a little bit more reliable. I know, a lot of you out there have the ¼ turn bolts and have never had an issue. Well, I was one of you, until it happened to me. I remember Ryan Urlacher posting a video on Feb. 4, 2018 about the Rickrak saddlebag system.

Kind of ironic he had posted another video with information on another saddlebag retention system on Mar. 28, 2019 just after my saddlebag fell off.

I contemplated ordering a saddlebag system from online, but I had a knee jerk reaction and wanted to fix the problem that same day. I came across a youtuber, Juelz Reyes, who went to Lowes and purchased some materials to make his own saddlebag retention system. His video link:

The items I purchased for this system are:
Hillman Replacement Knobs 5/16-18x 1 ¾ Model No. 884516 $3.63

Hillman U Nut 5/16 in Model No. 882983 $1.23

I incorporated the washer that came with the ¼ turn system along with another washer and lock washer. I didn’t purchase these items because I already had them in my tool box. Now this retention system isn't going to allow you to remove the saddlebag as quickly as the 1/4 turn system. You can cut down the 1 3/4 knob down, but I decided to leave it which would allow more of the threads to keep the saddlebag attached in case it starts to back out. Thank you for watching.
