That old bench is what brought me to the Morgans. I was interested in shooting benches at the time. Not really what your channel is about but I happened upon that video and ... not blowing smoke at you but.. it was the best build video I found. you had material listed, saw cuts, measurements and even a view of all the more scrap ends that would be left over after the project was finished. I subscribed to your channel and watched you grow ever since. through the mingo marker, the little red UTV trailer, numerous tractors, machinery and buildings, parties, weddings and births.

Just a heads up on your LCD screen on the kiln. If direct sunlight hits the screen over a period of time it will wash out the display. You can just make a small cover to protect it in case it's going to be exposed. Just a PM idea.

If you’re going to stack kiln dried wood you are going to need a building temperature controlled
@jimmieusaf-pol5818

I thought about that too, and maybe I missed Mike mentioning what the plan was to store the kiln dried lumber, in temp controlled space, but after watching this channel for years, I've learned that Mike always thinks ahead, and most likely already has a plan for that.
@user-rk2wd8id4b
@user-rk2wd8id4b 3 күн бұрын
@@kennethrobertson1201that’s not necessarily true. Once the wood is dried and the bound water is removed the cellular structure of the wood has changed. It will pick up some free water from sitting and equalize to whatever the equilibrium moisture content is. That water does leave rapidly once it’s brought into a conditioned space. It’s the same reason you need your bring hardwood flooring into your house for a couple weeks before it is installed.

VERMEER - now that is an excellent brand of equipment! It is a company that has its roots in the Netherlands, known for its quality equipment in the agricultural field and beyond. I don’t have shares in the company (I wish I did) but I was born in the Netherlands, and while I am proud to be a Canadian citizen (It cost me all of$10. In 1967) I am also proud of being of Dutch heritage. May the equipment serve you well so you may enjoy it for many years in good health. For all that we depend on our God and Father alone!

I respect your abilities, and your in-depth knowledge and experience which makes you do everything right. I had some thoughts on the kiln and wanted to get yours, or others feedback. You mentioned that you were going to use the side entrance on the container method for loading, and off-loading stock. I've seen the railroad tracks approach before entering from one end. I was considering the variables and with a side door, if you had half of the kiln loaded and was part way through the cure you would have a challenge adding additional wood. If you stacked it on top or alongside, you have a logistics challenge. With the railroad tracks approach you could slide the whole thing out, have access to both sides and be able to load the other side. It just gives you the side-by-side option. If you wanted to stack on top, it would be advisable to remove the partially cured stack, and put the fresh wood on the bottom, and then put the partially cured stack on top. Knowing you have the side-by-side option, you would stack one side halfway across knowing the other side is available without disturbing the original stack, other than it goes for a slide out ride while stacking the other side. Like I said, I am not an experienced kiln user. Yours or others thoughts on the matter?

Hi Mike, I know you already have a plan for loading/unloading the kiln, probably the Vermeer mini skid, and possibly a pallet jack for side to side, though was thinking about your military friend with the kiln and his rail system. I thought if you had a rail that goes the full length of shipping container, with some metal/wood pallets and bolted metal rail casters to them, it would make the process easier, side to side. You've mentioned that before, but sounds like you've come up with a different plan, so will wait and see how you load/unload without a rail system. And after watching your channel for years, I know you don't do anything without a plan first...so just my two cents on it. Have a Day!🙂

Morning Mike and Melissa, Hi Hunter! Mike you are absolutely right, pressure treated wood is not the same anymore I don't know if its the chemical in use now or the wood is too green used to get yellow wood as it used to be the best but not so much anymore even cross ties dont last as long. Looking forward to seeing the new tractor. Keeping fingers crossed you can get the con X shipping container you want. Just a suggestion, leave the shooting bench where it is and build a new one in the location for a longer range. Stay safe have fun Cheers!

You’re right, Mike, about the pressure treated wood. I’m redoing my 12x24 back deck. After removing the deck boards, the stringers are in perfect condition. The deck is 30 years old.

Hi Mike, Garry here. A long time, never missed an episode, retired ( 74 yo) from the mid north coast of New South Wales, Australia. I was wondering if you are building a cover over the container, if the unit was compatible with solar & if so, would it be economical to use solar on the roof to assist in funding the heating? Not sure if it’s viable in your location. Best wishes to you & the family. It’s just a delight sharing your journey & being part of a a family that’s just; regular & nice. Kind regards. Garry & my beautiful wife, Muriel.

Hello again Mike, I'm surprised you didn't get the dryer that uses wood heat, you would have enough slab wood to use, I'm sure you'll address all of the questions people will have for you, good luck with your new idea

Great purchase Mike. That will serve you well. I wish I lived closer. You would have kiln dried lumber to feed my woodworking habit😀
