This hymn was written after traumatic events in Spafford's life. His young son died, He business went up in flames in the Chicago fire of 1871. He sent his wife and four daughters ahead to England, while he sorted out his business. His four daughters would drown in a shipping accident, his wife would survive ... Shortly afterwards, as Spafford traveled to meet his grieving wife, he was inspired to write these words as his ship passed near where his daughters had died. That is some testimony to God's grace. Truly amazing.

It is on Wednesday , while i was listening to this song sitting alone on my bed mid day, tears came falling out as i sing word by word, i questioned myself , will i be able to say 'it is well with my soul ,when i see jesus coming that day?" I felt the holy spirit that moment 😊 that it is never too late to repent. GOD never stops calling.😊. His Love for us is so great.🥰 From all around the world,we may not know each other but we all serves the same God. My son Duane passed away on 15 June 2023 at the age of 44 - just slumped over and passed away while talking to a friend. God called him home suddenly and though I as a Father grieve and have emotional waves flowing over me, - it is well with my soul. This song is such a wonder support at this time. My daddy who has been a pillar of my life passed on two weeks ago. I had earlier failed the interview for promotion after serving for 23 years yet my juniors have been promoted & are now my bosses. My wife has turned against me & I'm heavily indebted. None of my prayer requests have been answered. I've attempted suicide,my long awaited compensation benefits after a nasty accident that left me permanently crippled 8 years ago have not been paid, but this song gives me some relief & it's my consolation.

It is indeed well with our souls. By this time 21 years ago my eyes was filled with tears I thought the world have come to an end when I heard about the death of my elder brother but I remember the word of God that whatever maybe it is well with my. May he continue to rest in the Lord.
