In 1 Samuel, Saul received shocking instructions from God to "utterly destroy" the Amalekites. How do we reconcile the God who smites with the God whom the Bible says "is love"? Join John Bradshaw for "Love and Destruction" and discover the depths of God’s love and mercy for us.

In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1John4:9-10) 🙏🏼 Thank You Lord For Your Immeasurable Love! I recommit my live to You! In Jesus’ Name! Amen!

Beautiful message. But would it be right to say that God has favourites? Some individuals seem to be more favored in scripture than others. Take for instance the disciples - how they died, and how the disciple Jesus loved was rescued from the cauldron of boiling oil?

Thank you for your question, Luckson. The Bible seems to hold pretty steadily to the idea that God is just and fair. Consider the following Bible passages: Romans 2:11 - For there is no partiality with God. Ephesians 6:9 - And you, masters, do the same things to them, giving up threatening, knowing that your own Master also is in heaven, and there is no partiality with Him. Colossians 3:25 - But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality. The Bible also teaches that Christians should not show favoritism: James 2:1 - My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality. We, as people, seem to struggle with favoritism, though. Even Peter did for a while. Acts 10:34-35 - Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him." It may seem like God is showing favoritism at times, based on how some people suffer and others seem to avoid suffering. But this may be less a case of favoritism and more a case of God knowing the end from the beginning and having a clearer picture of how any given situation may glorify Him (or not) based on whether or not He permits things to happen. However, there is a difference between "favoritism" and "favor". Favoritism is generally defined as giving preferential or unfair treatment to one group at the expense of another. Favor, on the other hand, is approval of something or an act of kindness beyond what is due. God most certainly exercises favor and it is most evident through His offer of salvation to all through Jesus Christ. You may enjoy a program called Not Guilty, which delves more deeply into God's favor. After spending 32 years in prison for a crime he did not commit, Gilbert Poole was exonerated. But unlike Mr. Poole, sinners are guilty of sins they did commit. It’s one thing for an innocent person to go free, but what hope do the guilty have? Don’t miss “Not Guilty,” and learn how your past mistakes do not have to define your future! itiswritten.tv/it-is-written/not-guilty

@@itiswritten many thanks for the response. As I read through, the text seemed to have a familiar voice. The text was sounding in my ears. Seemed like Pastor John Bradshaw was speaking. Thanks a lot once again.
