This song is a tribute to his father / Parents who passed away. Europa in Dutch means Europe. Pa or Papa means dad. His dad once told him the world has no “Grenzen” which could be translated to both borders (Borders are a man made concept) or limitations (Many people create their own limitations in their own mind). This life lesson inspired him to have keep having an open view on the world and live his life to the fullest without putting limitations on himself. After his parents died he carried a lot of pain with him. No matter where on earth he was (Germany, Italy), whatever food he would eat (Escargots in France, Fish and chips in UK, Paella in Spain), he still carries this pain with him. In the end nobody but himself could deal with this pain and he himself must find peace with his losses. Only going through the grief and finding inner peace would put a end to this suffering. This song tells the story of him as an orphan trying to do exactly that. Him creating this song was a huge part of this process. The line with Stromae / papaoute (which Translates to: Dad where are you), is followed with the words about how he wants his parents to be proud of him. He used to watch Eurovision with his parents and told them one day he would be there performing. Which is what he now did.

Joost will introduce a new generation to Eurovision because of this here in the Netherlands and i'm excited for it. I also feel i'm too old to follow whatever Joost is doing (voel me echt oud), but his energy and representation in everything he does is undeniable. Let the older people whine all they want. This is awesome. And for me with Paul Elstak nostalgic as hell

Vast majority loves it. It's fun, emotional, many Dutch elements for once, it's great. Who cares about old people give me a break 😂. We will vote for it, not Dutch old people. Even if it doesn't qualify (it will), it will make lots of people happy and smile. That's all what it is about imo.

@@Dannyknuiman Thank you! We all have high hopes for Baby Lasagna. He's an incredible person who put in a lot of hard work. Croatia has never shown this level of support for a candidate before, and we are hoping for the best, but we will be proud no matter what the outcome may be. 🐱♥️ But I'm really hoping Joost gets great results too. His song is interesting, catchy, and has that ESC factor. He definitely has my vote and I'm sure he can get fair amount of public votes. 🥰 I can't wait to see both performances. I hope that both Joost and Baby Lasagna do well and that we'll see them in the final.

Joost Klein is Groot! He dedicated this song to his father who died when he was 12 years old. His dad taught him that the world has no true boundaries. His mother died when he was 13. He is a HUGE inspiration to young folks, he is such a legend. The world needs more people like Joost. He has gone through so many challenges in life it is a true inspiration to see how he deals with it. Joost Klein is Groot! And I am 40 plus so it is not just young people..😄🍀🥰

The sounds are early 2000's and some sounds 2010's But new, you know what i mean? And the beat when the people dancing crazy was called happy hardcore and was very popular in the 90's. The dance was called Hakken and the group was calling themselfs Gabbers. O yeah and the godfather of hardcore "DJ Paul ELsak" helpt with the (happy) hardcore beat. He is even in the car (in the clip), the bald guy in the car. Joost Klein lost his father when he was only 12 and a year later his mother died. Song tribute to his parents, and a message to his father i have done it dad. He prommised his dad that he would be performing at the eurovision.

It is a true work of art, it is filled with so many hidden gems that go unnoticed, especially for those who aren't Dutch. But in short, all the musical transitions go from the old-school house, dance, and EDM to Gabber and New Kids "Hey Jonguh" (the referrals are obvious imho but I'm Dutch). It is a work of art! And I'm proud of him too. But I think the backstory is so important to really understand it that might be the only downside, perhaps he will have something up his sleeve?! Perhaps he will have an English version for the EVSC?! Can't wait to see it live on stage at the EVSC :)

The song is a cheerful, comedic and caricatural tribute to Europe, but it takes on a completely different meaning when you consider the life story of the musician behind it: a sad story. He dedicates the song to his parents, whom he lost at a very young age. First his father died when he was only 12, shortly after that suddenly his mother died. He sings Europ-"papa" (nice alliteration, but it's not a coincidence) and at the end of the music video, we see a metaphorically burning house where you literally see his family photo burning away. A very unfortunate childhood, but Klein finds comfort in the love of his parents and it even turned him into a musician. He started writing to process his huge loss. At the end, he quotes optimistic words from his father and says, "See, daddy? I listened to you."

First time in a long time I was interested in Eurovision. But now I’m all done with it for good. What a disgrace to ban somebody on a complain only. Next year if you want an opponent taken out. Just harass them against made agreements, and if they just respond one tiny bid in a wrong manner (Joost didn’t touch anybody and had asked several times to stop filming directly after the show, as was agreed beforehand (which has a very emotional ending for him) yet they kept filming), then go to the police, file an official complaint, and he will be disqualified, just because there is an official complaint, that hasn’t even been fully investigated! What is EBU going to say if the investigation clears Joost from any grave wrongdoing? Greetings from Belgium.
