Im glad I’m not alone in experience this game in the same way. I’m not even this far along, but the game’s ability to capture how depression feels, made me cry. I lost my dad when i was 21, and never dealt with it because of toxic masculinity. Now I’m at a stage I’m my life, that all those wounds are coming undone, and I’m finally being forced to face my darkness. This game couldn’t have come at a better time. 💜 thanks for sharing a vulnerable moment with us.

From a visual and gameplay perspective, this game kinda reminds me of Journey. It's simplistic, but does a good job at sending a message!

As a person suffering from depression and grieving from the recent passing of my grandfather, and losing a friend, I felt this is so much more than just a game. It's such a powerful game and I sincerely thank you for playing the game as I couldn't afford it yet. Thank you once again! =)

Hi ! It has actually been explained that Gris is a game representing the different stages of grief, each level and colour being associated to one of them. The statue you keep reconstructing is in fact, the image of your mother who passed, and the darkness surrounding you is supposed to be representing acceptance. During the whole grieving process, starting with Denial (the first scene where your character falls after failing to maintain a representation of her deceased parent) you avoid acceptance, because it'll mean your loved one is truly gone. It is scary, terrifying and like juming into an unknown world. The game ends with acceptance as you accept the passing of your parent, thus being now able to maintain the image and memory of your mother without pain or hardship, but with joy and fondness, this memory and representation of her now ever so present in lie to guide you onwards. The tomb you pass is her's by the way. This is also confirmed by the existence of a hidden bonus scene that can be found during one of the levels, showing the main character with their mother. I'm so glad you liked the game !

Based off the game is the death of GRIS's mother and in the end learns to except her death and goes to moving on and living life. But what made ME cry was GRIS reminded me of myself. I lost 2 people in my life and it was very hard to get over their deaths but I realized that crying for their deaths forever and not excepting that they are gone will only make you feel empty and depressed and the people you loved that were by your side would want you to move on and live life to the fullest. That's why it reminds me of myself (Dammit I'm crying again)

I appreciated seeing your reaction to Gris a lot. I just finished the game myself the other day and came to KZfaq searching for other people who felt as strongly about it as I do. I lost my dad when I was in my early 20s, so Gris hit me hard. The way she had to find her voice again is so relatable. How she becomes like a stone to weather the storms of anger but then uses that hardness as a tool to break free later on, and especially the experience of running from and facing off with a primal darkness that can move faster and scream louder. She's trying to put the ruins of her world back together and right side up again. Wow. I've never played a game quite like it, and I'm happy to see it hit others as deep as it hit me. (Proptip: There is a hidden achievement in each level that is named after the stage of grief that the level represents).

Gris is such a beautiful game and I feel, very underappreciated! I believe that more people should play it, not only as a tool to help people understand what grief can feel like but also as an emotionally cathartic activity. I love it so much

@@CalamityCalling I couldn't agree more. I've seen gamers complaining that it's not a game, and maybe it is more of a puzzle story than a traditional "game" but that's what I love about this era. There is room for different gaming experiences like Gris where there never used to be. This and Ori and the Blind Forest are the only games to ever make me cry, so they must be doing something right!

Surprisingly emotional games are the most powerful I think. Anything that can start you at zero and then make you grow with it, is an achievement. I feel as though gaming has developed a lot, but there will always be factions who believe that unless you can shoot or smash something, what's the point.
