Phoenix hasn't turned two years old yet, so I'm not expecting anything to come from this love interest.
Little Mardi ² seems totally confused as to what's going on. I think he is just trying to follow more so into what Phoenix is doing.

Looks like it's going to be a bountiful year for babies! They seem to be warming up their parenting skills. I look forward to seeing your "2023 BABIES". Your flock will be looking for the babies too. Sleep while you can as you will be feeding round the clock. Last years babies will be joining in the hue & cry of "Where's the Babies?" Don't think we'll see babies from them. At least not this year. He's got a 50/50 shot at his age and she hasn't shown interest in nesting yet, but I believe she's ready. Pet birds tend to get "better" with certain things a bit older. If something happens, though, I'll certainly let everyone know.

Each has pros and cons. During molting, plenty of extra cleaning to be done. My birds fair well during molts and generally help preen each other, but beautiful new feathers come in. Breeding season, we have a ton of raging hormones, so not all are okay sharing friendships as normal. (Jealousy and being protective) plus lots of chewing as it's natural for them to want to nest. Plus side, we get to watch them bond and be naturally happy without being sexually frustrated.

He will be 2 in a few months. I've seen flirting as early as 5 months. Now, this doesn't mean they are sexually mature by then. At nearly 2, he has about a 50/50 chance of being successful when it comes to mating, although it's not common, especially with pets. He should get his ring near summer.

I heard make ringnecks get their ring in when they're sexually mature. Can they successfully mate before their ring is in?

They can mate and successfully have offspring at his age but it's less common. Even mature ones aren't always successful for the first time. IMO pet birds can even take a couple years longer to really grasp what they're doing and some never really grasp.

@@ChatterboxParrots Thanks for the reply. We have a male ringneck that is almost 2 years old who hasn't gotten his ring yet. Although we don't have any other ringnecks that he might mate with, I'm always looking to learn more and better understand. They are such goofy birds! And the interactions between him and our conure are pretty hilarious. Merry Christmas to you and your flock!

@Squish I'd imagine his ring should appear during his next molt. The only males that don't get a ring are Albino and Hillerman pied aka Recessive pied. Some are late bloomers and some earlier. Our oldest Dunkin got his starting around 12 months old and our original Mardi, his started coming in at 18 months (without being fully in). I've actually seen others, not mine, come in as late as 4 years old but that usually happens when they don't get enough vitamin A in the diet.

@@ChatterboxParrots Good to know! Maybe I'll get his DNA double-checked. He is a grey ringneck. He has a bit of a shadow ring, but that's it. Although, he does act typically male with the "heart-shaped wings", bowing, and general chattiness. In the meantime, I'll give him some extra carrots and sweet potatoes. He won't mind at all.
