IT RUNS BAD! Hood Scoop and Stance! - Making Our Door Delete 1956 Chevy Look Cool

Over the past couple of videos we have been converting this boring 4 door 56 Chevy into a stylish 2 door. It's a little more than simply welding the back doors closed.
With the outside of the car re-skinned we then had to weld in new structure on the inside of the car. I re-used some old tri 5 bits and went to town with the grinder and welder.
Now that the car is structurally sound, we can address the styling. Wheels and tires, hood scoop, ride height. Those 3 can change the look of a car over night. Mild to WILD

So you already have the chrome hood bird, and now a fake TA hood scoop behind it? Maybe next you can bondo a couple of those small tomato paste cans on top of the front fenders and wire them to blink back at the driver when you put on the turn signals. It would be interesting to see how the inside of your house is decorated.

You guys today amaze me. So many of you like the grunge look. And you call the rust and different colors "patina"! LOL I had many tri-fives in my day, but I'll tell you: I would not take that 56 if you gave it to me....if I had to drive it that way!! But, to each his own...it's the fad today. You certainly know what you are doing when converting the 4dr to 2dr! And you are quick. And you are absolutely right about using the 2dr doors. I have seen guys take the wing windows off and keep the front 4drs, but that just does not do the job, still looks funny. I put the large Mopar scoop on my favorite 57 (for tunnel ram), and also tried a Camero scoop for while. In my time, of course we raised up the back, and/or lowered the front. When I had tired springs on a tri-five, I just pulled off the spring perches, welded them back on the top of the rear axles, and mounted it under the springs. That usually placed the top of the tire not quite showing in the fender. I also tilted my original steel front cap, bumper and all. No cut fenders. I slotted the cap's frame mounts. So all I had to do to open the cap was pull the cap forward about 3 inches, then I could tilt the cap without it scraping against the front edges of the doors. It's normal open position was tilted about 45 degrees, but with a 30 second change, it would open to completely vertical. And two people could remove the front cap in about 2 minutes. I was always trying different intakes, headers, etc so the tilt cap really made that easier. Have you converted a 4dr tri-five wagon to a 2dr? Would like to see that. I had to sell my last '57, a 4dr wagon 4 years ago. Nice work and videos even if you don't like nice paint! :) I'm subscribed and watch all your videos. Sorry I can't donate money...I live (barely!) on a fixed income.

IIRC, the T/A scoop was originally designed to face opening-forward until tests showed there was a high pressure area at the cowl and it was more effective 'reversed' on the Firebird. They did work until noise regs meant closing them off; the early ones had a vacuum-operated door. I think most of them could be opened up by taking off the block off plate, but there were a couple of designs over the run, so don't quote me.

The big three or four at that time and years, 56 was absolutely the best looking of all. Dodge, Ford and Chevy had hit my own thinking the home run of this design. Tube grill, nicest roll to the back fenders, windshields looked right. I was a strange one owning a fifty eight all white impala like the movie rig but way before the movie of course. Even the 348, with tri power on mine. I swapped it later for a sixty seven charger with a shit load of stuff done to it for racing. That sway bar system in back of the 58 came loose somehow and the guy wrecked bad and sued me which he won that law suit, so I sued him on the charger and won... the court system made a ton of money off of us both and we were pissed off at each other for years till a day came in the service and then after that, killer buddies for life. If your 56 were mine, I would put the pipe style bar across the front for a bumper.... a two or two and a half inch pipe so its functional but not rude. I would do a functioning hood scoop and scallop hood reliefs on the rest of it for a ton of air and keep it cold. I do believe the distributor is giving you issues with its running right.... those older ones have a lot of problems
