While I love reviewing diode lasers on the channel, fiber-style machines are a blast...and insanely fast. Let's take a look at the EM-Smart 20W MOPA Laser from 3PLASERS. While it looks like a straight fiber laser the power source is actually different giving it a bigger range of applications.

I’m starting a bizz with custom name engraving. My LaserPecker 2 had 3rd-axis issues (I get a new within weeks), but after researching a ton (where your content is king amongst a few - thanks) I came to the conclusion that a galvo laser was exactly what I need. Since the laser dot size is important, galvo CO2 was excluded, leaving me with the LaserPecker 2 5W and hoping they would evolve to possibly 10, 15 or 20W diode. Kind of annoying when you want to upgrade.. And Boom then you post this beast an hour ago - Thanks once again!🙏🏽

For real checkout the cheaper options in the EM Smart line, it's still going to be about double the price of a Laserpecker but would be great for production work (and making the money back).

Wow, MOPA really seems like a future of small format shop-style lasers. Fast as hell, no need for adjustment of axes, and most importantly, and the freedom of wavelength adjustment. Now diode lasers have come a long way in last few years...but this is a different animal altogether. Super excited about this machine...

For more interesting colors on stainless you have to defocus the head about 1mm up to spread the heat out, something I've experimented with on a 70 watt Tykma large field and later heard from a former Tykma applications person. Be glad the clones cost what they do since the industrial machines are usually 15x that price. If they are running the same ripped software there should be tools to distort the marking field to match your part's contours in the absence of a rotary head.

Question: I already have a cnc machine that i use for making aluminium modular panels, I am looking at getting a laser for marking the adonised panels with text and legend markings. Is it possible to see one of these lasers do marking on adonised panels, also which do you recommend? I have looked at the atomstack x20 pro 130w and have watched the video on this one also. I am a little torn for which one to invest in, also then is getting the laser at the right origin X/Y point. Could you possibly do a little tutorial info on this? thanks again for another great video!!

Since MOPA is better for plastics, I'm curious how well a small, simple machine like this would do with PCB prototyping or small scale manufacturing. It wouldn't be too difficult to have a multi-material profile, just switch frequency and amplitude within a certain set of lines in the code. 'Etching' a PCB would be such a great alternative to the typical developing methods, as even some of the newer prototyping methods, like using a photoresist PCB blank on the LCD of an MSLA printer, still require developing in chemicals. If this could not only etch the traces, but also etch the board for proper marking, I don't see why this couldn't be a viable alternative to cheap board manufacturing. Stemming from this, I'm curious how well this kind of laser handles various solder masks, say if someone wanted to mask a whole board then etch the masking off the pads, instead of more typical processes; most PCB software already separate pads and traces, so technically you'd already have a file for just pads, with the proper settings you could potentially etch the solder mask but not the copper pad underneath. If it works out, something like this could be great for maker spaces, assuming someone had already gone through the calibrations for specific materials, thicknesses, etc. Even as a hobbyist or small business, a machine like this would be amazing for prototyping and small production runs.

Other types of lasers don't seem to be able to cut carbon fiber well. I'm probably looking at a 50w machine, but I'm not sure if only the MOPA fiber lasers can cut carbon fiber?

Since this laser creates an angle between the surface being cut and the beam output. Does it CUT through 3/8 thick material at a slight angle since the laser beam is NOT CUTTING from Directly above at a perfect right angle to the surface being cut. I would like to make a whole bunch of wood puzzles and I do NOT want there to be any angles of any sort on the pieces. I want the pieces to be truely Square to the surface. So since the laser is NOT MOVED directly above I would guess that the laser is always cutting at some varying angle to the surface of material being cut which for my uses makes it a worthless device for me to have. Thank you for your time.

For most, I'm betting this is such overkill it just won't come into play this year for most of us! I rather spend money on a quality CNC table top system.
