@@steelisthemeal the cold weather would kill the batteries anyway, because cold weather slows or stops the chemical process in a battery, which will lowers a batteries ability to hold a charge. Electric cars don’t stand a chance in a deep freeze. That’s why we need gasoline and Diesel engine. Sure they take a while to warm up, especially diesels because they don’t have spark plugs, but gas, diesel fuel, and all the other fluids in a vehicle hardly ever freeze, thanks to the chemicals, and the freezing and boiling point requirements.

Best I had was a 95 ranger. 8 years in my possession, only left me on the side of the road once (serpentine belt), and only ever got oil changes and tires. Lasted 25 years, but finally succumbed to 2020 when the transmission went out. Best spent $6k, got every penny worth out of it.

@@smooveb191 I replaced mine with a cheap 89 Ranger, though it was on its last leg. I traded it in for the car I’ve wanted since 2007 (5th gen Camaro), and within an hour of driving off the lot, I was hit by an uninsured driver. Just recently got it back, and now I’m snowed in (I live about 45 minutes away from where Scotty lives) so I’m walking to work rather than risking it in this weather. Dependent upon what kind of towing/hauling capacity you need, I’d highly recommend the Ranger (not sure about 2019). Great little truck if you just need to haul a few things from time to time, though if you’re looking for a people mover or a work truck, I’d look elsewhere.

Surprisingly most Toyota Highlander’s in Chicago are not rusted out at all!! I see them all the time and I’ve had one. (2003 Toyota highlander 2.4 all-wheel-drive) They are made that well!!

Hey Scotty. Thanks for the entertaining and ever informative videos. Just wanted to say that being from Alberta the all season tires do all right until you hit ice. Winter or all-weather tires with softer rubber do better in the cold but what temperature is critical? Just been trying these all weather tires for two winters and they are definitely a compromise on ice. All weather do well in snow and slop as they clear their treads well but they do not perform much better than radials (with deep wide treads when they are new!). Not a great idea when your life depends on 4 little patches of rubber holding you to the planet. I am a skier and drive enthusiastically up hill into the wind at 70mph in a foot of snow. I go early. When there is powder tires compact and liquify the snow eventually turning it into ice do going early avoids this. Then the true winter tires will save your life. Do a video on tires...temp effects tread design and mention the sipes. You may just save someone's life. PS i also ski at 70mph sometimes! Keep up the good work! Oh Other factors to consider...weight full tank of gas and a few sand bags will help. I used to clear mtn powerlines and a rear wheel drive with lots of weight and chains will pretty much go anywhere.

Thoroughly enjoyed the video! I understand Chicago weather and Toyota's. I have been to Hawaii. Amazing state! Never tasted salt in the water in HI. After all, it is in the middle of a fresh water ocean.

Scotty, your snow makes me laugh! In Alberta Canada is for about a week and a half -22F, some snow, not like other years. It's getting better for tomorrow, but for last 4 weeks, every morning was -4F or lower!

I had a 2004 highlander v6 awd, is a awesome car and pretty fast, great in snow with snow tires and always got me up to Tahoe in all types of weather, even drove throw 2 feet of water a few times do to flood streets

The first time I visited the Us in 2008 January I went to Tahoe. I rented a Highlander - good choice as the route to Tahoe from San Francisco was snowy indeed and very steep. Great motor.
