Been a Newcastle fan for 19 years, I was weary of Bruce's appointment at first, but he did a decent job last season, although the football was dire to watch. Would love Rafa to come back at this point, but until the owner is changed, its the same situation with a different manager. The club has felt like an island for the past 5-10 years, almost like a poison chalice for managers and players when they join the club.

He's not had a top team, so it's good to consider that when looks at stats out of context. Until Newcastle get a take over, nothing will change. Without Steve Bruce we potentially wouldn't be where we are; when we were having serious issues with the board finances being blocked from China and the FFP all over us, let's be honest we were a mess as a club. Leeds were interested in him. He stayed loyal and gave us stability when we really needed it the most . Was he right for villa no.. But as a villa fan he will always have my respect.

As a Mackem, I do not take pleasure in watching Newcastle struggle. For one, we definitely cannot gloat as our football is some of the worst I have ever seen, but Bruce's football is absolutely atrocious. I think that is something both clubs can agree on. As originally a working class sport, the North East is so passionate about football because we don't really have much else. It's shocking to see the current state of both clubs in such despair - getting fleeced by their chairmen who sucks the club dry. The only team that has something to shout about is Boro.

If you take the best 100 players from Co Durham, Northumberland and Tyne&Wear, a list with full of icons and legends, less than a quarter started their career in the North East. The one constant through all the years of problems at Newcastle is Ashley. He’s the one who has to go. If the club was sold to owners who are in it for the right reasons then the problems there will cease.

Clubs need to retain managers, players will hold clubs to ransom to move to better their career or pay check, they're only human.. but the manager? Any decent players from our academy get loaned out or given away for free. Armstrong scored for fun at Coventry and Blackburn, he might not be a 20+ goals a season prem striker, but we could’ve given him a chance. Kazenga Lua Lua, Fraser Forster, Rolando Aarons...these arent the best players, but given a chance they could’ve been better than what we’ve bought in over the years
