Hi Alan!! I picked up two of these right before Christmas and I am just starting to explore this terrific expression. I adored the Craigellechie 13! Why not advertise right on the bottle about attractive features such as no colouring added and the fact that the whisky isn't chill filtered?! I never understand that. This is perfect for me as a psychologist!!! - when I saw your description of Moody and Challenging I thought, "How perfect for me to explore!! Lol! This is what I do with people in therapy!!" I have only had 3 drams, about 30-60 ml each, so not much yet, but I have already discerned quite a bit of what you are speaking to here about this very interesting Craigellechie 17!! There is so much going on! I'm thrilled so far with what is on my palette! Fabulous information and nosing and tasting notes Al! Love this so much! Thick oily expressions, spicy, intense, almost a bit briny, salty! I love complex whiskies so much!! I can get such rich red apples! Full flavour is right!! I also prefer this at 46& and I have tried this scotch with a bit of water and it was okay but I prefer this on its own! I do think this expression is well worth the extra money and the sherry takes this to a heightened place of enjoyment for me. In Canada I paid $200 Canadian dollars plus tax. I am oay with that and I bought 2 so I will enjoy this with my husband and thoroughly enjoy it! You rock my friend!! I hope you are having a fabulous day!! Cheers!! 🙂

Geez, the prices...In Germany/EU the 13 can be had currently for around €40, the 17 for around €85, which in the current market is quite the steal for what you get.

Great review, love the Craigellachie 17. Proper old school sherry maturation combined with worm tub character.

These two are very, very similar. I can tell them apart blind, but I’d be hard pressed to say the 17 is better.

Love the 17! Love the 13 too. No wrong answers, they're different pours for different moods. =)

For my palate, worm tubs make the best sherried expressions bec I’m not into sweet and alot more into dirty, funky or sour noted, esp in combo with peat. I’m a fan of the 13 as a “drinker” but always found the 17 far more interesting and never spent the $180-200 in NYC, so imagine my surprise at finding a more reasonably priced bottle after moving to Brazil! Given the increased limits on availability and recent pricing, I’d definitely put this in the $130-150 range as worthwhile but I’m even more curious about value amongst the younger and higher ABV indies.

I would certainly look out for both this and the 13. Right up my street, as you know - cheers Alan.

My take having acquired and drank both bottles thru…with the 13 in Arizona USA at the big box booze store being $65 and the 17 year found at a small old town liquor joint for $145….I’d have to stick with the 13. Like you i found more to like with the 17…but found it more summery and lite aka delicately more complex…would it be $75-$100 it would be amazing…at $145 plus tax just a nice bottle but a huge let down

The 17 year old sells for about €130 here in Malta. Too much for me. At that price, I can buy two equally good age statement whiskies.

This is a tough one. Sounds very very interesting but in my area the Craigellachie 17 year is 163 USD plus tax. A Scottish guy I met used Craigellachie 13 year as a palate cleanser during flights.

Thanks for reviewing Alan. Decent stuff.... ...but I think you've been fooled by the batch. I've had several 13yo and 17yo and all bottles say it is batch 04-6137. Just checked....yep, both my current 13 and 17yo have that exact number. But as said: lovely dram. Slàinte mhath

That 17 year old goes for 3X the price of the 13 year old here in the Chicago area.
