It has been said squash is often a game between 3 individuals with the ref an extremely important factor on how the game turns out. It is the sports’ Achilles heel because there is a large amount of subjectivity on calling lets or strokes. Having said that, it has improved a lot and I think overall the refs still do a good job with the circumstances they’re in.

Players need to remember that there are swings and roundabouts in the refs calls - for every call you perceive as being bad and going against you, at some point you'll have a similar call benefit you, and I bet nobody has ever argued with a ref when a point went their way! I was taught as a junior to respect the referrees decision even if I don't agree with it; some of the pro's would do well to take the same advice.

I disagree, if squash were to make it to olympic they must have the highest standard, bad calls are absolutely nonsense, its 2018 now with all the advancement in technologies I don't understand why are referees nowadays still make bad calls, it's affecting the players mentally, and the quality of the game. hands down.

Never heard that squash is a game between 3 individuals.... And have not seen much matches where one would say the outcome was decided by the referee. Not more than in football, boxing (worst by a mile, even in olympic events) or any other sport.

what is the blood ruling?
@jomangeee9180
@jomangeee9180 5 жыл бұрын
Squash blood rule Bleeding, Injury And Illness. If an injury occurs which involves bleeding, the bleeding must be stopped before the player can continue. A player is allowed a reasonable time to attend to a bleeding wound. If the bleeding was caused solely by the opponent's action, the injured player wins the match
@petoczistvan
@petoczistvan 5 жыл бұрын
There is no time limit for dealing with the bleeding. If the bleeding recurs, the player loses that game, and must take 90-second interval to stop the bleeding. If the bleeding hasn't stopped after 90 seconds, the player loses the match... That's why the ruling is so bad.

I have a question. If a player drops a racquet or headband or any peice of gear, is a stroke awarded to the opponent?
@flybynightrush
@flybynightrush 5 жыл бұрын
Only if it affects the rally. If the opponent doesn't notice then the point counts whichever way it was won. If it distracts the opponent then a stroke is awarded.
@flybynightrush
@flybynightrush 5 жыл бұрын
@@cscoetzee I always try and emulate the pro referees and they have consistently employed rule "13.4.5" of the wsf squash singles rulebook. "If the object was not seen until the rally ended and had no effect on the outcome of the rally, the result of the rally stands." They use common sense. If there is no danger to either player with the fallen object and the opponent doesn't notice it, there is no need to stop the rally.
@flybynightrush
@flybynightrush 5 жыл бұрын
@@cscoetzee Agreed, it is in the rulebook, but it is not employed. Refs have consistently zoned in on rule 13.4.5 I mentioned in my previous post that this only counts if there is no potential danger to the players. Don't know if it will ever be revised, but the referees certainly aren't following it, except if there is a potential danger.
@flybynightrush
@flybynightrush 5 жыл бұрын
@@cscoetzee I did mention it, you'll have to read my posts again. My experience has seen the opposite to what you say and I feel rightly so. In the end, it comes up so rarely I doubt they're going to revise it. I also wouldn't feel hard done by if I dropped something and a stroke was awarded against me, even if I felt it wasn't a danger or distraction - simply because it just doesn't happen often. In fact, I don't think I've ever dropped something on court. And I've only ever had it happen while I was reffing once, and it was a distraction so I awarded the stroke.

Why was Shorbagy awarded a stroke when it didn't look like Elias's face getting in the way, affected the shot? Why not just a let?

Matt C It's not that simple. A stroke can be impacted but not prevented, I think they put it, something like that, and be called a let rather than a stroke.

Alias is in his swing, shorbagy could easily hit a winner, it's a clear stroke, tho he could ask for let but referee previously gave a no let so yea, why not just hit him.

2:24 why is shorbagy apologising. He went for ball and Elias stood in his way.
@jameszie69

He still hurt him. You can be in the right and it be a stroke and at the same time you can still feel bad about hitting somebody in the face with your racquet. In fact, I’d be alarmed if he hadn’t apologized in some fashion.
@James-ld3zs
@James-ld3zs 5 жыл бұрын
@@jameszie69 Also because earlier in the match in a similar position shorbagy noticed the danger and asked for a safety let but got a no-let. So he hit this shot knowing there was a risk, but he had to hit it or it was a no-let. So I guess he felt partly guilty but really the ref forced his hand by a bad earlier decision.

@@TheJohnCooper he immediately apologized to Elias and kept asking him if he was OK, and then screamed at the ref it is your fault, when the ref told him to calm down. They are a small community of players no one wants to injure anyone else
