Forget the money you've saved, the bonding and father/son relationship is PRICELESS. Steve is such a champion, and has passed this passion on to next generation. Loved the video and so nice to see Nadyana's smile, even though she's not feeling well, poor little love..!!

Excellent to see you working with your father, those are memories that will stay with you for life. You father is an excellent mechanic. You are lucky to have someone you can learn from. Brilliant episode and get well soon, you both look rough..... from 2 ex Perkins diesel engine employees this one really took us back to training school days. Good job! Just be careful with shipping engine back not to fall foul of EU customs. Declare this engine as returned EU Goods ( detaile timescale) with no increase in value to avoid import duty. We'll buy you a beer if we bump into you this season.

Well done, your dad is a legend in his own lifetime. I learned how to deal with engines way back in 1971 when I had to pull my 850 mini apart, interestingly after all those years the basic engine principles remain the same with the obvious difference of the injection. Well done on the editing and the filming , one day you should add up all the time , I know for my tragically short videos it takes an age so 33minutes terrifying to think. !!

Good old Dad! He did a great job. A few months ago I started a mechanical restoration project with my son, in his garage. It was on a 52 year old 2 stroke Suzuki motorcycle, that had been off the road for over 30 years. We got the engine running well, and converted it to electronic ignition. Then I brought the bike back to my home in Spain. I have now restored the paintwork, new wheel spokes, new tyres, seat cover etc. Finally got it on the road this week. Running well. I especially enjoyed the father/son time we spent working on the engine. It's good to show love in practical ways like that. His help was very valuable.

When I thought my sons to work on engines, I used the same method my dad used to teach my older brothers how to work on engines. Which they then used on me. Make them do all the wrench turning with the teacher telling them every step of the build. Hands on IMO works a lot better than just having them watch you doing all of the work.

Possibly your best video, a superb account of the realities, obstacles, unexpected surprises, and the benefits of DIY, knowing what can be left as is, such as crank journals, and where to sweat attention to detail, like aligning the block, sump, end faces to ensure flat surface for the cam drive casing. I've done many rebuilds since teens, exactly like this, clean, strip methodically, label/ mark everything for correct assembly, and then scrutinise every part, and take for machining. Its becoming rare, this approach, but is absolutely best, self reliance, to be able to have best confidence in your abilities, and, your great little ship. I know your Cat very well, i kept my sailing dinghy next to Reg Whites Sailcraft factory, even raced with him, and his son Rob, though they were at Warp Speed, in Tornado Olympic Class, multi gold medals winners. Yer dad, what a lovely guy, great attitude. This is a game changer for you guys!!!👌🙏👏👏👏

And yes, Mark. The work you put into the production and editing of that video shows all the way through. Some amazing close-up work!
