If I were the President of the university, or the AD, I'd be just as concerned about his press conference response to the whole thing. It's one thing to lose your cool in the heat of the moment, but he had time to think about it, and still came out with excuse after excuse, and never apologized for embarrassing the school, or the sport, and never said anything like "I can't do that." It sounded like he feels like he had to defend his manhood ("He touched me." We don't let 5 year olds get away with that line.) and would do it again in a heart beat. You don't need that kind of attitude and response from any of your coaches, let alone the head coach, no matter the school.

Pretty pathetic excuse for throwing hands by someone supposed to be the adult/role model in the room. I would be fine with suspension not firing if this was his first time. The fact this isn’t his first, leaning more toward firing. But just a casual sports fan, what do I know.

It seems to be almost an afterthought that these players first and foremost are students at a university. They are supposed to be "learning" and their "instructors" are supposed to be role models who further and enhance their growth and development. I realize college basketball at a major university is big business and some kids are simply not there for the education. But if Juwan Howard had fully grasped his role as an instructor and teacher of young adults (and not about his ego), this never would have happened. This is a horrible look for a university and the President of U Mich has to be furious.

I agree with Stephen Smith of ESPN who said the biggest culprit was Howard for punching the Wisconsin assistant coach which instigated the brawl and that is inexcusable. Besides being a tort and a crime, this is also a workplace violence issue. If the University of Michigan has a zero-tolerance workplace violence policy, Juwan Howard should be fired. To do otherwise will put the University of Michigan in a bind if it fires any other employee who engages in workplace violence.

Stop rationalizing what Howard did, he assaulted another person, the coach he hit could press charges. If Howard were hit by the Wisconsin coach he would rightfully be fired and he'd never get another chance. Apparently Rachel Nichols mistake was she didn't assault anyone, apparently she would've only been suspended but would have kept her job.

Bob Knight (to my knowledge) NEVER disrespected an OPPOSING player or coach by physically hitting them. Howard is a very good coach, however he has a problem…anger. You play by the rules. This unwritten rule crap is just BS. His problem is not the time out, it is an under achieving team that is HIS responsibility. His anger is a true reflection of the failure this year has been. He lost control and, as a head coach, should pay a heavy price. If this happened at a little league game, I’m quite sure the coach would be removed from ever coaching again.

If Juwan wanted to just walk by and not talk to him, then he shouldn’t have pulled his mask down and said “I’ll remember this” as he approached. He said that and Gard wanted to make sure he explained himself and grabbed his arm (which he shouldn’t have done). That’s what started the escalation. If Juwan just walks by and doesn’t say anything then we probably aren’t having this conversation. Overall- adults behaving poorly.
